I’ve been following the waiting boards for a while but this is my first proper post. My boyfriend and I have been together for 8 years and I have been dropping not so subtle hints for a while! We have been talking seriously about getting engaged since Christmas (he finally bought an appartment in December which he always said he wanted first). We have looked at rings together online and in jewelry shops so he can get an idea of what I like because he wants to choose it by himself, but he wanted to make sure he got me what I’d always imagined wearing for the rest of my life. I was starting to wonder if this was all just a way to placate me and get me to shut up about engagement/getting married and may have had a couple of small ‘waiting’ grumps….
Anyway, he is in the Navy and has gone to sea for 2 weeks starting Monday and so far we’ve only been able to communicate by email as his phone signal is bad and he’s been so busy. He finally called me this evening (YEY – so good to hear his voice!) and completely unprovoked by me told me that my ring is in the process of being created!!!!
I can’t believe he just slipped that information out so casually and now I’m so excited about when its going to happen. Its my birthday in 3 weeks so maybe then?? I’m really not sure though as his sister is getting married in 5 weeks and he told me previously that he didn’t want to steal their thunder.
What do you girls think? Should I allow myself to get excited now?

I would get excited, but not overly. If it’s being made, it’ll probably be awhile before it’s finished and he’s done paying on it. It’s definitely a big bit of information though, so I’d get excited.

That’s really exciting!! It must feel really goo to know that, but also a little agonizing at the same time because you never know when it will be ready and he will pop the question. I hope the wait isn’t too long, but as the PP said, custom rings can take weeks to be made. But still, definitely time to be excited!!

@Askja: Yay!! Sounds exciting and promising to me!! I read on a ring site once that custom rings can take up to 6 weeks to get made. (So I always would think that at any given point I still might have another 6 weeks to wait for anything haha).
Who knows though, it may be close to being finished and completed 🙂 I would allow yourself 20 minutes a day to obsessively think about it and then try to relax and remain calm (haha, easier said than done!). But congrats on this exciting news!! Hopefully it’s not too much longer! xo

Congrats!! Sounds like it is definately on its way! We are having our ring custom made at the moment and I am pretty sure he is picking it up tonight!! It has taken less than 3 weeks and the only delay has been on our end as we had to find the time to try on the setting. It could be ready really soon!

Thanks girls, its nice to have permission to be excited. @TriciaAndDazzling, @shirasagi and @shinythingsrule, I’m glad you all pointed out the possible waiting times for custom rings, will help to keep my feet on the ground a little bit, but I love the idea of 20 minutes a day excitement time! @CupcakeLove how exciting that your ring is nearly ready, hope you don’t have too long to wait x

So excited for you 🙂 It’s in the process of being made ! Did you pick it or did he ?

He picked it, I’ve just given him ideas of what I do and don’t like – hope he’s chosen well! Eeek!

I would say you can get excited now. And custom rings don’t necessarily take weeks to be made. My Boyfriend or Best Friend ordered me one. We went in one Saturday, showed the jeweler what we like. He ordered a couple diamonds for us the Monday after, they were in the Tuesday after. We went to see the diamonds the next Saturday (a week after the first visit), picked a setting of the few he showed us, decided on a diamond and by Thursday the ring was ready to be picked up, so less than 2 weeks from the day we first visited the jeweler. It would have gone faster if the jeweler was open in the evenings, since my Boyfriend or Best Friend works a regular 9-5 and that’s when the jeweler was open, so we could really only go on Saturdays.
