@Pixie26:  it really doesn’t matter what the surgery is. People have their own lives to live that don’t revolve around you getting married. It sucks that your BFF might not be there but it sounds like she has a lot going on in her own life too. You’re already married and you can always celebrate another time with her over dinner or something.

If she’s going to lose her health insurance benefits and she needs surgery, it’s kind of selfish to expect her to set that aside so she can attend a party. You need to let this one go.

She probably didn’t have a lot of control over the date.  She needed to do it before starting her new job, that may have been the only date available for her to be scheduled.

@Pixie26:  Maybe it was the only time that she could get it done.

Also perhaps she’s upset she didn’t get invited to the actual wedding. Whatever, the point is it’s her choice (to prioritise when it gets done).

Since when does health insurance cover cosmetic surgery?!

@MrsWBS:  +1

Also, agree w/ the PP – my friend is getting implants done and really wanted them before her honeymoon. Even though she married in July and her honeymoon was in Sept, the earliest date she could get was Oct. It was a completely inconvenient date, but she had no control over it. Drs don’t schedule surgery every day or around people’s parties, they do it around their own surgery schedule when they need to do it.

I would let this one go.

@MrsWBS:  she is having the implants removed, which might be classed as medical and not cosmetic, depending in why they need to come out.

@Horseradish:  +1.

It sucks, but what can you do. Move on, focus on the people who are going to be there.

@Pixie26:  oh my god. She helped you and/or was your sounding board for a month while planning the reception for the wedding she didn’t get to attend and all you can do is complain that she’s getting surgery before she loses her benefits?

Guess what? You don’t get to schedule surgery whenever it so happens to fit your friend’s party. You get to schedule it on the soonest available date before your benefits end.
