@Charlies_Angel:  Maybe their test was messed up?  Maybe they mixed yours up with someone else?  Did they offer to send out a blood draw?  I wouldn’t have left without that!  Do you have a primary care physician?  Ask them to draw your blood or write a script to draw it.  After getting a positive HPT I wouldn’t believe I wasn’t pregnant until I saw a negative blood test.

@Charlies_Angel:  Oh no. I’m so sorry. I’ve never heard of anyone receiving a false positive with a HPT before. If you don’t mind me asking what brand HPT was it?

@beachbride1216:  +1

I would get a FRER and test with FMU tomorrow. If it’s positive the dr or nurse must have screwed something up and in that case would demand a blood test.

@Charlies_Angel:  Here’s info from the test’s website:

Q: What do I do if the result is positive (pregnant)?
A: A positive (pregnant) test result shows that the pregnancy hormone (hCG) was detected.  You should see your doctor to confirm that you are pregnant.  Because this test detects very low levels of hCG, some women may test positive even if they are not pregnant.  For example, a study of women aged 41-55 showed that 4 out of every 100 women tested positive even though they were not pregnant.  Such “false positive” results in women in this age group are generally due to a hormone called pituitary hCG.

I still think the doctor’s office botched your test.  Have you taken another test using another brand?  I would hold for 4 hours and take another test.  Oh, and I just thought of this, if your HCG levels are low and you tested this morning before going to the doctor, it may not have had enough time to build back up in your urine before the test you took at the doctor’s office.  I’m crossing my fingers for you.

@beachbride1216:  I just thought the same thing.

Your still very early and since you already took a test this morning it’s possibly that your urine wasn’t as concetrated at the dr’s and therefore their test didn’t pick up the low trace of HcG? If I were you I would deff pick up another FRER and even a digi and test in the morning. Good luck!

If you’ve already had three positive home tests, and you continue to have positive results on home tests in the next few days, I definitely would follow up with your doctor again in a few days. I’m no expert in this area, since I’ve never been pregnant; however, from what I understand, false positives are very rare, and I can’t imagine someone having multiple false positive results.

@Charlies_Angel:  This happened to me.  Did they take a blood test to confirm?  The first response test seems to be much more sensitive than the test in the office.  When my blood test came back it was at 35  (over 25 indicates pregnancy)

I think you are most likely pregnant.  The fact that you tested, and then went to the dr to test again..you are probably REEEEEALLLY early and didn’t have enough HCG to test positive at the doctors.

@Charlies_Angel:  They aren’t necessarily more accurate.  They are generally dips strip tests which if done/read in a hurry are just an inaccurate as home tests.  At my last doctor appointment they did a test and it was the Dollar Store card that I regularly buy for $1 at the Dollar Store.  as a result, the only reason I would go to my doctor to confirm pregnancy would be to get a blood test done.

@Charlies_Angel:  I’ve seen stories on here of people that get them at home and it just doesn’t pick up at the doctor until later because their tests aren’t as sensitive.
