Holy crap on a cracker! Just got my first BFP – never been pregnant before and am still super early (guestimate around 2 weeks..) so I’m freaking a little bit about what to do now. I know the basics (no alcohol and caffiene) but that is it……what would you bees suggest as my first step? I don’t even know if I should be calling a Dr yet or waiting a little longer? My husband doesn’t want to tell anyone until we are in the ‘safe’ zone and through the first trimester….but that leaves me with no one to answer my questions!!
And just because I can’t stop looking after staring desperately at too many of my BFNs over the last few months….obligatory pic of the two lines!

I would call your doctor to set up an appointment. Typically, they won’t see you until around 8 weeks. Start taking a prenatal if you aren’t already and avoid drugs and alcohol.
Happy and healthy 9 months to you!

@marie011: Your picture didn’t show up for me. Congratulations!! You should join your due-date month thread on here, that way you’ll have lots of people to talk to 🙂

congrats! call your doctor but most likely you wont have an appointment till around 8 weeks or even 12! take your prenatal vitamins/folic acid and now its just a waiting game 🙂

@marie011: Doctor practices vary place to place, I went into my doctor the same day I got my BFP for a blood draw to confirm (I’m also a Canadian Bee, not sure about MrsWBS). If you haven’t started prenatals, you’ll want to get on that. If you haven’t been taking folic acid before getting pregnant, you’ll want to let your doctor know. You can speak to your family doctor about who will be your caregive during the pregnancy. Some get an OB, some use a midwife, some remain with their family docs.

No picture!!! But CONGRATS!!!! Guessing you’re a late June early July future momma??
Call and make an appt
Start prenatals with omega and dha
drink enough water if you don’t already
Hoping for a BFP too next week, maybe we’ll be month twins!

How do you plan on telling DH? 🙂

@marie011: Congrats! I would start prenatal pills if you haven’t already. Most already have what you need so any will do. The folic acid is the most important in it. I would also call and set up an appointment, if even just to do a blood test to confirm pregnancy and after that you can set up your first prenatal appointment.
You could also check into some books to hold you over. Mayo Guide to Pregnancy is possibly the BEST book out there on weeksn/months. I love it.

If you got a BFP recently you are more than likely at least 4 weeks along. You can calculate tentatively by going back to the first day of your last menstrual period. That’s how doctors calculate due dates most times. Since My LMP was August 18th, I knew that when I tested at September 13th and got a faint positive, I knew I was almost at 4 weeks.

Congrats! I have to echo the previous posters, call your dr. and set up an appointment. Also get on some prenatals with DHA right away. Not sure if they have it where you live, but in Indiana Marsh grocery stores and Meijer stores offer free prenatals with a presciption. Good luck! Enjoy this time!
Stay active and drink lots of water.

@megz06: Agree on that book! I bought that months ago and it helped a lot!

@megz06: Yep, that’s a great book! Avoid What to Expect When You’re Expecting, also known as “Here’s all the stuff you’re doing wrong, and also a list of things to worry needlessly about.”
