Hey bees! I’ve been lurking for a couple months and I just love the fun and helpful vibe around here, so I thought I’d finally decloak and officially join the ‘Fleet (yes, I am a gigantic Star Trek/sci-fi nerd ;D).
Background: I’ve been with my SO/BFF for over 5 years, and we’ve lived together for over four. I’m turning 30 this year, he’ll be turning 28, and we want to get married in the next year or two so we can have a fun, laid-back party and make our parents happy. We’re both self-employed, work-at-home artists, and fairly unconventional. But the one traditional thing I have found myself weirdly caring about? Rings!
Ring wrinkle: I can’t see myself with anything but a beautiful white emerald cut. This kind of design in particular!
Oh sweet, sweet ~1 ct emerald cut with tapered baguettes and preferrably a mixed metal look with yellow gold band, how you call to me…!
It’s classic, gorgeously timeless, elegant yet strong and architectural. And so hard to achieve on a budget of $1,500 or less!
I looked at Blue Nile and Brilliant Earth, and though both have a design similar to what I want, they’re out of my budget. eBay has several beauties, but all for tons more if you want anything over .3 carats. I’d love an Amora Gem, but they won’t be out until 2015! Moissanites don’t cut it when it comes to emerald cuts. Ashas and CZs are pretty, but I’m tough on my hands so they’re not for me in the long haul.
The only other look I really dig would be a a low profile emerald cut bezel (so striking and practical!), like so:
But they’re hard to find, especially with diamonds or white sapphires. :[
Question: Anyone else found themselves obssessed with specific settings for emerald cuts on a budget? Were you able to find a ring you loved, and if so, how/where? Jewelers, pawn shops, eBay? Options are just kind of limited with this cut versus others. I live in metro Boston, so I’d love recommendations for the area!
We’re going to Gemvara’s pop-up shop (have fun getting lost for hours with those customizable options, BTW!) on Newbury Street soon, because it looks like they have some fairly affordable designs with emerald cut white sapphires. Maybe I’ll be able to fall in love with a different setting if I see it in person?
I’d love to see pictures of your emerald cuts and hear from anyone who went on the hunt for a specific, kinda unusual dream ring with some limiting monetary parameters. Really I guess I just want to share the love and commiserate!
Anyway, sorry for the long first post, and wish me luck, eh? On the hunt! 😉
