So the boyfriend and I are going to be picking up a ring sometime in October (!!!) and I was hoping you ladies would be so kind to give me your opinion and maybe show me photos as some Ring-spiration?
I’ve been having a hard time deciding if I want to go for something dainty (maybe .30-.50 center stone) w/ a bunch of pave diamonds (this is the specific ring I had in mind, but yellow gold & w/o the band http://www.etsy.com/listing/42452530/diamond-engagement-ring-and-matching) OR a solitaire w/ a bigger center stone (maybe 1 carat?) & a plain gold band? Something to consider: It must be yellow gold, as well as look nice next to a thin gold nugget wedding band. Also, I have a size 5 finger.
Here’s approximately what the band would look like: http://www.goldrushfinejewelry.com/Assets/Wedding_Set_101-0876.jpg
So what would YOU decide? Something smaller, but w/ a sparkly setting or something bigger, but w/ a simple setting? I want them both lol! HELP! 🙂

Personally I would go for the larger center stone with the plain band. I prefer a cleaner look. And if you do the sparkly setting with the smaller center stone the center stone will be drown. The center stone would have to be significantly larger than all the side stones in order to stand out. Also, I think it will look a little off if your engagement ring has pave diamonds on the band but your wedding ring is a plain band.

i LOVE THE ETSY ONE YOU POSTED!

Spend some time at pricescope. You’ll learn how to get the most out of your ring budget and get just what you want. Also if you want inspiration pics, just check out their boards. They have waaaay more than we do! (warning: you will forever be addicted!!)

I think the one you posted is GORGEOUS but I agree with Moose1209 that the pave diamonds on the band of the engagement ring but nothing on the wedding band could look a little odd. So I’d either get the wedding band in the link you posted that matches or get a similar style center stone plus halo with a plain band then get the plain wedding band you’ve had in mind.

Something to keep in mind. If you get a “different” shaped e-ring you will have to get a custom band or wear them seperate. This is my setting but mine is in yellow
I wanted something “different” but now I cant find a band!

wow sorry for the HUGE picture I tried to make it smaller!

I voted for the larger center stone. It’s easier to change your setting down the road then trade up center stones. It’s exactly what DH and I did.

Personally I love solitaire e-rings (Princess Cut to be exact >.<). And the 1 ct. range sounds perfect! Congrats!! 🙂

I think if you are having a yellow gold setting, then the solitaire option would look the best. I like both too, though so I can see why you’re having trouble choosing!

I say go for the bigger stone. You can always have it reset in a few years when you have more $$$ with the pave if you want

If you end up going for a larger solitare, which is what I voted for to match the wedding band you posted, keep in mind you might not need a huge stone. A 1 carat will look a lot bigger on a size 5 finger than a size 7 or 8. I’m a 7 3/4 ring size and I have a .6 (pave sidestones but no halo or anything) and I think it’s the perfect size. But I do think a solitare will match the band you have the best. It’s actually very similar to me MIL’s set.

I voted for the solitaire, but mostly because that is what my FI and I picked out. I figured it is easier to trade up for a larger stone and/or dress it up later with a sparklier wedding band. Also, Mrs. Tilly is right. Even though I have pretty big hands, I wear a size 6 ring and a 1ct stone is as big as I would want to go. My FI wanted to get a 1.25 or 1.5 but they just swallowed my finger.

I love anything sparkly 🙂
I’m a big believer in quality over quantity…it’s hard to compare a diamond on just size alone.

I have almost the exact same ring except mine is an oval center and we don’t knwo what band we’ll get to go with mine either. The one that “goes” with it that they showed me briefly is terrible. I’d rather go without a band than get that one!
