The only thing we've gone over budget on is the photographry.  I really wanted a certain photographer even though there were much cheaper options out there.  Luckily, he worked with us and brought the price down a little.  It still wasn't within our original photography budget, but every little bit helps!

MsAnnaLytical    March 13, 2010   Orlando, FL--finally with my FI!

My FI is horrified that a fourth of our budget is going toward the photographer (who we have yet to find and agree on), but I refuse to budge on this one. I have GOT to have the pretty pictures to show my grandchildren. My parents don't have ANY pictures of their wedding, and I always wished that they had gotten some. I'll print my own invites, get a budget dress, make my own cake, but the pictures...I won't trust that to anyone else.

I think I splurged on a couple of catagories, given our budget, but the worst is probably the dress.  It winds up working out to 20% of the budget once you add in undergarments and alterations...but damn it's worth it!!!!!

@vistagirl: you can edit the poll, just make sure you add the options to the very end of the poll or it will mess up the results already tallied!

I voted honeymoon, although we haven't considered it a "wedding" expense, or part of our budget.  It's definitely something we're splurging on!

Honeymoon.. we were told a piece of advice that has stuck even since... splurge on the honeymoon - its for the 2 of you !!!!

So, thats what we did.. it was not the most expensive part of course... it costs SOOO much to feed people 1 meal !!

Well if it's any indication of our splurge, my parents gave me a budget of 5k total, and then they decided that they wanted to use my mom's work (she works at a hotel that has high end catering) for the food, even though we were originally planning on doing hors d'oeuvres and now they want a full buffet meal. At any rate, we just got the estimate back from the caterer and it will be about 6k.... so I'm not even sure what my budget is now!

I jumped on the photography bandwagon. We don't have anything confirmed yet but I've already contacted my dream photographer to make sure she puts our wedding on her calendar! :)

We definitely splurged on food...I always hear complaints about bad wedding food, which makes me cringe!  We also splurged on alcohol because we wanted people to dance and have a good time. :)

Photography will be the only thing that lasts, so that was what was most important to us.

I ended up spending more on my dress than I originally budgeted for. Still not the most expensive thing in our budget, photography and of course food/alcohol will be more, but it's the thing so far that went over.

I think our photography was the biggest deviation on our plan, but man those rentals add up fast too!

Venue is our big one, since we get nothing but the venue and the coordinator in our price. Kind of ridiculous, but I fell in love with it, and they were one of the only wineries who had no corkage fee for bringing in your own beer & sparkling wine. They also didn't require that we use their caterer or baker, which worked for us, since my friend's fiance (who's a pastry chef) will be making our cake, and because we wanted Turkish food (my fiance is Turkish).

We're also dropping a pretty penny on our photog, though. She's fabulous and ridiculously popular in the San Louis Obisbo area...good thing she happens to be my friends' sister. We're getting her to travel to Nor Cal for us (and are getting a lot of extras because she's a friend...no break on the price though, since she had 4 other brides requesting her that weekend).

We are getting help for most of the wedding, so my fiancee and I are spending the most on our honeymoon in Fiji. Biggest Splurge : wedding budget splurge Icon Biggrin

eek we have too many. our biggest unintentional splurge -- the dress. my mom and i went dress shopping super early and splurged on a vera wang...if i could do it again, i would buy a cheaper dress. but that was the first thing we knocked off the list so i just tried to be more intentional with the deal seeking for other areas of the wedding.

our more conscious splurges? invitations...this isn't what other people would splurge on but design is my passion so i couldn't have anything less. since i designed them myself and found a great price for our crazy printing needs, it's significantly cheaper than what this suite would have cost in real life, but much more pricey than what anyone should really spend on this stuff =P. photography wasn't initially a splurge but because we opted for a photog in the area we live in now vs where we'll be married (so we could have time to meet her beforehand and do an eshoot), we're spending more money on travel + lodging for her and a 2nd shooter which kind of evens us out to what is rather average for photography.

Our biggest splurge was photography. I figure what's the use of diy-ing and spending all this money one such a beautiful day if I can't look back at photos to reminise. I have no regrets and would splurge on photography again and again. :)

Well i think i would have to say my dress. . .all though in comparison it really isnt a splurge; it is right around the same price range everyone else is spending on their dresses but with our tiny budget it's most definatley the most expensive

We have 3 major splurges - photography, food & drink and honeymoon and went DIY/second hand/clearance (super cheap) on almost everything else.

The honeymoon is costing the same as the photgraphy and food & drink combined and all other wedding related costs ended up being a total of $3,000 if that gives you any indication..... (not including rings)
