I love the idea of birdcages for cardholders but I’m a little fearful that people won’t know to put the cards in there b/c there’s not a special slot and its all open. I’m thinking people may think its just decorations? For those of you who had one did it go over well?? How did you set it up? Pictures are more than welcome. Thanks!!

At my friend’s wedding, the person bringing the birdcage was a little later arriving at the reception than some of the guests because she was in some of the formal pics. People had already started asking where to put cards, so by the time she got there with it, everyone knew.
Assuming your cardholder won’t be late haha I would say not to worry about it because similar to my friend’s, people will ask if they’re not sure. Or, if you know someone close to you is giving you a card, you could just make a point to ask them to stick it in the birdcage as a visual guide for others. Or appoint one of your bridal party to check on the table and stick any floater cards in the birdcage.

I’m just making a sign to attach with some pretty ribbon to the birdcage that says “Cards” to it. I’m all about being obvious 🙂

A friend of mine stuck a decoy card in hers. I thought it was hysterical, but it totally worked — no confusion!

i would put some sort of signage on it if your worried no one will know what it is for. either that, or have someone put a couple of random card in there so people can basically figure it out.

The birdcage here is my inspiration. I’m making a similar sign for ours and decorating it with flowers like this one.

We’re putting a sign that says “cards” on the birdcage. I’m sure people will figure it out.

@nicole18ashley: you’re welcome! I think I saw that exact birdcage at Jo-Ann Fabrics in the wedding aisle, in case you or anyone is looking for one.

Make a sign to inform your guests. I just Googled “birdcage card holder” and got a bunch of images.

i was worried about that too so i put a sign on it that said “cards.”

I would do exactly what a couple people suggested if you don’t want to go with actual signage. Got a couple extra envelopes around? Toss em in the birdcage, and people will follow suit.

I totally agree… attach a sign that says “CARDS” and put in a couple of envelopes as “dummies” and people will get the idea!

Thanks ladies!!! I didn’t know if it was tacky to just write cards, but from the pics it looks really nice!! Thanks again 🙂
