I've never seen anyone do that before...and maybe that's why I think it looks odd. I don't know...I guess I'll see what others think
btw, you're gorgeous! let's see the whole dress!
I've only seen blushers (sorta the way you have your birdcage styled) in normal tulle, not birdcage netting. Usually it's one or the other. You could do both--the more traditional one for the ceremony and the birdcage for the reception!
Thank you! Here's my dress-- I know my fiance won't come on here so I think I am safe. :-)
here it is bustled with my shrug that I'll wear in some outdoor photos
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your shrug!! May I ask where you got it? It's exactly what I'm looking for.
PS- I like the idea of wearing the longer veil for the ceremony and the birdcage for the reception. The two different nettings just don't match quite enough for my tastes to wear them together.
soooo pretty! I think I like the birdcage alone with it. Maybe with a fascinator.
Aw thank you so much! I got it off etsy - from Bonzie . I love it! it's got silk rosettes on one side as well. Highly recommend Bonzie. :-)
Oooh, I thought it looked like a Bonzie! I can't believe that I was able to spot that, and from the back, too :)
I actually want a birdcage veil that goes to the jawline. I have always loved the look since I saw Reese Witherspoon wear it that way in "Sweet Home Alabama." (I'm a dork, but it's funny how you remember some random little things like that). Here's a picture.

@lovesthe bear OH MY GOSH! That's where i saw it and I LOVED it! thank you for reminding me!!!
@nexus-6 yeah those shrugs are distinctive! i kind of can't believe I got up the nerve to wear something like that, but I can't stop smiling when when I put it on. loveee it.
@ Nexus-6 and Miss Damask--yeeeeeah!! I'm not the only one who remembers/loves that look!! It's still stunning. I am determined to make one just like it and figure out a way to wear it, lol.
Wow, that dress is amazing and you look so georgous in it! It looks so pretty with the shrug too! Great taste!!! Personally I feel like there is too much going on if you wear both of them. I also like the idea of wearing the long veil for the ceremony and the birdcage for the reception...although it might get annoying completely covering your face while trying to hang out with people. So then maybe in that case I would just say wear the birdcage and then either take it off and only wear the flower or you can make it so it isn't covering your face but only part of your eye so it is kinda slanted. This is what I picture with that dress http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vt_related_1&listing_id=32917691
wow, Jessica Alba looks great too. I am more sold on the birdcage than the long veil-- I'm borrowing a long veil primarily for bridal photos, I don't know about ceremony yet. Y'all have great ideas. My dress lady(I know a great seamstress in DFW if you need one) showed me how to sweep up the birdcage into a pouf behind the flower for the reception and it looks awesome. :-) I am loving your opinions!
Miss Damask -- Love, love, love the birdcage AND the longer tulle veil on you -- BOTH at the same time. great find on the Jessica Alba pix.
I just happened to do a huge search on line last night for birdcage veils... and it is de rigeur to pair a birdcage with a tulle; sensational look.
Castle Bride has the most sensational birdcage veils (hundreds apiece), but at least you can get an idea of how long these can go down the back - yes birdcages!
other birdcages that I loved -- are at BirdcageVeils.cm -- Lindsey, Angie, Karen, Jenni, Misi (not all long)
or at HairComestheBride, I think style JLJ-V4835
I realize you may already have what you're looking for -- and again, I LOVE what you're doing and may very well do it too -- came up with it last night and now I see it on a beautiful bride this morning! but i thought i'd pass along the treasures I'd found cause so many of the girls seem to like this this morning! and you're all so helpfor to me when I ask.
as for the shrugs -- I'm definitely wearing one -- one is being made with my maggier sottero (michele), which I may end up selling. cause I found some amazing couture dress (like an Anne Barge or sophi tolli), unknown designer, which I bought at bridal garden in manhattan. seamstress is making a jacket out of the very long satin and beaded train. very excited, but i'll wait til the maggie comes in to make the choice! also wearing a gorgeous organza choker, rhinestone bracelet/earrings, something bleu shoes (high heel satin pumps with large rhinestone brooch). these accessories are amazing... and girls, I don't have a single dress hanging in my closet, but I've got the shape and the boobs, the hair, the whole nine yards, so it's ABOUT TIME!
Miss Damask -- how long is your looker veil? I know i's a borrow, but given the choice, how long would you have it, paired with a birdcage?
I did both - I had a fingertip length veil borrowed from my MOH and I made a birdcage veil but it sat differently from yours. I wasn't crazy about my fascinator, but it ended up being one of those last minute things I forgot about til a couple of days before the wedding.
I never can manage to upload photos from my mac onto weddingbee, so hopefully this link of a photo from my wedding will work. It's from my facebook page, so I really have no idea if it'll work or not...

I love your dress! And the shrug! As for the veil, I'm not sure. Just wanted to comment on the dress
Sara Gabriel also has some birdcage veils - Mrs. Cookie got her (regular) veil from SG. They're pricey but gorgeous. Perhaps you can find inspiration from her as well... although unless the website had been changed, it has sketches of the veils, not photos of them. You can find a place that carries her veils in your area and look at them in person.
@joebeth12 - the tulle veil is cathedral length-- as long as my train. It has a few crystals here and there but is otherwise unadorned.
Thanks for the compliments on my dress and advice, all! I am still undecided about the long veil for the ceremony but I'll definitely work it in for photos. i got a fascinator that is a purple satin rosette with peacock feather accents to go with the birdcage. So, even without the long veil I think it will look good. :-) Thank you all for the links too!
I think one or the other would look better. I'm not sure about the 2 different nettings together. Your dress is so gorgeous!
you look beautiful in your dress and shrug. I really dont like the two veils together to be honest. I think they are conflicting styles. I would pick one or the other. I think the birdcage veil goes more with the style of your shrug
Your shrug is stunning - love it. I would choose the birdcage veil and fly solo with that veil...the two of them together is a little distracting. You will look amazing!
I'm doing two birdcage veils. The front one is similar to yours, except it comes to about the middle of my nose, and the other is a blusher in the back, I'm at work right now, so I can't show you a picture I took with my hair done and everything, but I will post a picture when I get home so you can see what it looks like. I couldn't find what I wanted for them, so I made them myself. It was actually much easier than I thought, the hardest part was finding the birdcage netting. This is difficult to find because fabric stores don't get it in as it is being monopolized by the wedding industry to sell the popular birdcage veil, but I found some millinery sites that sold it. Let me know if you're interested in making yours and I can give you some tips.
Here are the two pictures of my veils. I didn't get the good pictures, I thought I did, but you can see the front veil doesn't come down to my chin, although I definitely could have made it that way, and my back veil is like a blusher that goes just past my ears.
Ok, I didn't have the pictures I thought I had, but you can see what I am talking about. My front birdcage doesn't come to my chin, but I could have def made it that way. The back birdcage is like a blusher and comes to just the top of my neck.
The shrug and the dress are adorable! I love your birdcage veil, but I feel like it's too much going on with the traditional veil behind it. What if you wore the traditional veil for the ceremony, and then switched to the birdcage for the reception?
I would do one or the other... I love, love, love your dress. What style and designer is it?
I love your dress! and you are so pretty :)
I like the idea of the reception =birdcage, ceremony=traditional
The birdcage veil is super cute. I got one too its a shorter version. I got a feather hair piece from www.radokri.com.
I just have to decide how to wear the veil and piece together. Either have the veil diagonal across my face or just going straight across. What do you guys think is better? I will attach the feather piece over the comb part of the veil.
@MissDamask We are dress twins! I just ordered mine and don't have any pics of it except for the designer's website, so I was SO excited to see a picture of it on you, a real bride! You look stunning - and I love seeing what you did with the bustle and the accessories, etc.
As for the question at hand - Personally I would do one or ther other. I agree with what some others said, that both together is a little bit distracting and your face and the dress are both so gorgeous, I would keep it simple. Between the two separate veils though, now that's a tossup, they're both great!
@Akalk The dress is Anjolique 930

Hello everyone! I've been a fan of this site for a while, but I've never written a post of my own! My question is relating to birdcage veils. After a long search, I finally found the veil I wanted-- I think. I'm pairing a borrowed long veil in the back with a birdcage veil that I'd like to wear to my jaw line. I thought I'd seen that somewhere, but now I'm finding that it seems kind of uncommon to do that. Do you think it looks odd? I'll attach a photo. I am going to also wear a purple flower/feather/peacock feather combo on the side to tie in with my bouquet, the decor, etc. And I may adjust it to where it doesn't stick out to much up top. So what do you think? Can I wear it this way? Have you seen veils worn this way?
