I say if you wear it down. Wear it half up half down. No matter how you look on your wedding day he will still love the way you look.
I think birdcages look fine with hair down as long as it's styled nicely. best of both worlds, I think.
I have the same dilemma! FI wants my hair down for the wedding, but I like birdcage veils. So I was wondering the same thing about having long hair with the birdcage!! I agree that it looks prettier with an updo, but I guess we want the FIs to be happy too!
I had my hair trial on Wednesday and here are my two options. I left the salon with my hair up and when I got home the Fiance said- oh- your hair up looks nice. I thought it was going to be really severely pulled back from your face....
However, everyone I have showed the photos to have liked the down-do better (with the exception of a couple of the hairdressers who thought the up-do was much more bridal).
I think I'll be going with down...
Including some photos for jingle96.

from the pix in your trial, i think it looks great down with the birdcage.
OMG! I think it looks absolutely gorg in the down pictures with the veil. In fact, much much better than the up. So Old Hollywood.
I think it looks super cute with your hair down! Don't sweat it :)
Just wanted to post and show you how it all turned out. Thanks for your feedback. We had an awesome wedding.
The veil looks great with the long hair! Love it! Congrats :)
oh wow! you look fabulous! I'm trying to decide this exact same thing right now... love the birdcage but mom and FI like the regular ones. I think I want my hair up, but I know FI loves it when it's down..... ahhhh!!!!!!!!!
haha
This is my inspiration for long hair with a birdcage veil. I know it's not for everyone, but I loooooove it!
You look AMAZING! That looks just like the style dresses I was looking at. If you don't mind me asking, what dress did you wear? Where did you get your veil?
I would not have chosen the birdcage veil with hair down but after seeing your pictures I would DEFINITELY not choose hair up with the birdcage veil!
You looked gorgeous! And thanks for the pic, I was wondering how it would look. I have a hair trial coming up, and that really helped.
<span style="font-size: x-small; color: #81a026;">melimel33 My dress was from Filene's "Running of the brides" in NYC last February. The tag claimed that it was from Yolandas (Boston?) and I felt it was a steal at $250. I didn't need very many alterations aside from hemming.
My veil was from seller anastasiya7860 on e-bay and I purchased the hair fascinator from someone here on weddingbee.
Best wishes with your wedding.
@ pie -I LOVE your hair! Do you have a pic of the back?
I never would have thought about getting a birdcage veil wearing your hair down, but it looked amazing on you the day of the wedding.
Ok...I voted for ignoring your fiance and it's because from my experience, men say things like "I LOVE your hair down/curly/long/fill-in-the-blank" but it doesn't mean they don't love it otherwise. Also, you are most beautiful when relaxed and comfortable. You know he'll love it no matter how your hair is...and you have the rest of your life to wear it just like he likes it. (:
Mrscingle2be - here is a photo of the back (and my VERY handsome groom). Unfortunately I don't have any direct-on photos yet (these are just the teasers from the photographer).
Birdcage veils are so much fun! ;-) I wore my hair up for the ceremony (with a birdcage veil) and then took half of my hair down! I must warn you that taking my hair out took 20 minutes. I think I would have rather left my hair up and joined my guests for a drink at cocktail hour!

My fiance just threw me a curveball last week right before my hair trial. He said (the sweetest thing) "That he loves my hair and thinks it is one of my most attractive features and that I should wear it down". Our wedding is in 5 days. I set up a second appointment with my hairdresser on Wednesday to play with some down styles.
I had been planning to wear my hair in an updo with a birdcage veil. I found a few photos of birdcage veils with long hair, but in general I think that they look the best with short hair or an updo.
I considered an updo that could be easily taken down for later in the evening, but my hair appointment is at noon and the wedding ceremony isn't until 6pm...
Should I wear my hair down and keep the birdcage in the closet? or could I just wear it for the ceremony, but take it off for the reception and majority of the photos? I really had my heart set on the birdcage.
