Good evening, Bees!
Long time lurker, first time poster with a birth control question.
My doctor put me on birth control pills yesterday. It is a pack with 28 pills, 21 active and 7 inactive. He told me to begin taking them on Sunday (which is tomorrow). I have a feeling I’m going to start my period tomorrow. Which pills do I take if I start? The active or inactive? Please help! He said the package is idiot-proof, but it definitely has me confused…

I THINK you’re supposed to start the pills the sunday after your period starts. Most BC pills have an insert with detailed instructions along with the pills.

Ok, so I’ll start them a week from now? Got it!

@zizzybeth: you start from week 1, which are the active pills and just take it in that order.

You can start them whenever you want. Start with the active pills.
If it were me, I would start tomorrow. It’s not going to cause a problem with this cycle. You may notice some changes next cycle, and starting a pack after your period can sometimes minimize those changes or make the transition a little more predictable, but it won’t do any harm to start the day you get your period.

You can actually start your pills whenever you want. You don’t even have to start them on Sunday. Start with the active pills. I strongly recommend reading the insert that comes with the pills (not the little sheet from the phamacy.

Start the active pills even if its the first day of your period.
