For those ladies on BC that don’t have a withdrawal bleed/period, how often do you take a pregnancy test?
I’m on Nuvaring, have been for about 8 months, and In the past three months have stopped spotting completely (even with taking it out every 4th week as prescribed). I had sufficiently freaked myself out last month and took a pregnancy test, which was negative.

@everalwaysrealtrue: When I was on the Nuva Ring, I would have a period every single month when I took the ring out for the 7 days. Maybe you should ask your doctor?

My prescription is to have it in 24 out 3… rather than 21/7

@everalwaysrealtrue: that might be why youre not getting a period, might not be enough time. Sometimes takes me 3-4 days of it being out for my period to start.

I do continuous birth control (3 packs at a time of Loestrin) and it made my period stop. I’ve had several different doctors tell me it’s totally normal, so no biggie! I’d ask your doc about it, but as long as you’re healthy, don’t worry about it. I trust my BC entirely, but I’ve never missed a pill and I’m not too paranoid 🙂

Birth control has a tendency to make my periods shorter and lighter every month, and I eventually stop getting them. I don’t worry about it too much. I’ve mentioned it at my annual gyno exam, and it’s not a big deal.

My bc scared me last time because I was having pregnancy type symptoms, and I always get my period on a Wednesday. I did end up getting it, and honestly I trust my bc. Sometimes I’m a few days late, and rarely a few days early, but I don’t test either way.

@everalwaysrealtrue: When I was on Nuva ring I also stopped getting periods at all and I think this is pretty common so I wouldn’t fret. I also took pregnancy tests once a month because it freaked me out. All I could think of was that if I was preggo then the BC could do a lot of harm to a fetus. I only did this for about 5-6 months and went off the ring for other reasons.

I’m on loestrin 24fe, but I havent had a period or any bleeding for the past 3 months. I did just take a pregnancy test to ease my mind. When I do get a period on the pill, it’s really just spotting, so I test every couple months.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think birth control (unless it’s like an IUD) can harm a fetus. The active component in BC is essentially pregnancy hormones. I know with birth control pills they advise you to stop taking them when you find out you’re pregnant, but I don’t think that has anything to do with the safety of the fetus.
I haven’t checked the Wikipedia source, but it says, “NuvaRing should not be used if a woman is pregnant. There is however no known harm to the woman, the course of her pregnancy, or the fetus if NuvaRing is accidentally used during pregnancy.“

@everalwaysrealtrue: I did not have a “period” on Nuvaring, just spotting. However, I did get pregnant while on Nuvaring and still had the same spotting each month (I did not know I was pregnant for three months and continued to use it like usual). In general, I just wait, though. If my period is more than 2 weeks “late” then I test (this only happens when switching BC though)

@everalwaysrealtrue: Thats how I used it… rather than no ring for 7 days I did no ring for 3-4 or sometimes 0
And that had nothing to do with me getting pregnant- it would come out during sex sometimes and I would not notice until a few hours later or the next morning!

I would definitely talk to your doctor, when I was on Nuvaring I had it in for 21 out for 5 and I usually would only start bleeding on Day 4 and then it would last three days (but the ring would already be back in).
I am sure your doc wants you to bleed, to shed the uterine lining so I would definitely ask!

My Doctor told me when i started on nuvaring that it would make my periods(withdrawl bleed) shorter/lighter, or even stop completely. I wasn’t worried about the no bleed for its own sake, but just becuase it made me wonder if i was one of the 2% that get pregnant on birthcontrol using it correctly.
