@classical_wolf:  You probably will not be able to get the IUD or Implanon (now called the Nexplanon) at your appointment. I work at a GYN office and you usually have to call you insurance carrier and make sure you don’t have to order from a Specialty Pharmacy. Unless your Gyn has the devices right there. The IUD you will need to have cultures to make sure you don’t have any infections before inserting it.

@classical_wolf:  I know a ton of people that have gained weight on depo. 20-30 pounds. My friend has Implanon and loves it. Good luck!

When I wanted Depo, they made sure I was significantly active.

They explained why, but it was a bunch of years ago, so I don’t remember why!

@classical_wolf:  I switched over to the IUD (Skyla) the end of July and was able to have it inserted the same day as my appointment. Usually you need to schedule a separate appt to have it put in, but I was the first appt of the day and showed up early than my scheduled time, so my dr had enough time to do everything (cultures, pregnancy test, paperwork, etc.). If you don’t want to have to take a pill every day, I highly recommend the IUD. Although it was a bit painful while being inserted and I was a bit nauseous the rest of the day, I have had no issues since.

You could be fitted for a diaphragm.  I used one for several years and had no difficulties.

@classical_wolf:  Yeah, it’s not for everyone.  I’ve been using the paragard iud since I stopped the diaphragm.

i tried depo and didnt put on a pound. It can make you feel a bit hungrier, true. But ultimately no one i knew put on weight unless they were eating far more than before – thats not a special depo side effect, thats common sense

i was a bit moodier than before according to my DH but i did like not having periods.

@classical_wolf:  No, they wanted to make sure I got plenty of exercise. Something about calcium absorption and bone strength.
