I took Ortho tricyclen and its generic for years.  I have also been on the patch, depo shot, and regular ortho cyclen in the past.  I never had any trouble at all with any form of hormonal bc pill.

I would talk with your doctor to see if there’s a pill that will work for you, and discuss your options.

I’m currently on LoLoestrin Fe and I love it.  I was previously on Yaz and I had awful cramping and side effects that got increasingly worse the more I used it.  My doctor decided to switch me to LoLoestrin because it’s lower dose pill and she thought it would help reduce the side effects.  I’ve been on it for 2 years and it’s been a breeze compared to what I went through on Yaz.  No side effects or issues at all for me.

@classical_wolf:  I was in love with Loestrin24Fe, but it just got discontinued by the manufacturer, so I’m going to be forced to switch shortly as well. I’ve been on it for a few years with almost no side effects after the first few months of getting used to it. Plus, it had 24 active pills and only four placebos, as opposed to most pills with only 21 active pills.

Sorry I can’t be of more help. I’ll let you know if I’m able to recommend whatever pill I end up on though!

In the past I have taken LoestrinFE, Yaz and Yasmin – I hated all of them. I’m now taking Othro TriCyclen Lo and absolutely love it.

I’ve taken Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for years and I’ve had no issues or side effects at all. I tried Seasonique for a year but I didn’t like it (skin issues, horrible cramping).

In general, look for a pill with a third or fourth generation progestin because they seem to have the least side effects. These would be desogestrel (kariva, mircette), norgestimate (ortho tri cyclen and otc-lo), and drospirenone (yaz and yasmin).

Since you had trouble with yaz and yasmin, a good plan might be to start on otc-lo, and then if you have spotting problems you can switch to regular otc, which has a slightly higher dose.

@classical_wolf:  if you were spotting with those you orobably need a pill eith higher estrogen. I take it you are not a smoker, have high bp or are breast feeding right?.  Are you looking to skip periods ?
