Hey bees! Has anyone taken their birth control pills straight through, meaning skipping the placebo pills, to avoid having a period?
I’ve never done this in all my years on the pill, but need to do it this month so I won’t have my period during our honeymoon cruise. I’m a little anxious about “messing with” my pills. I’m currently on Ocella, which is the generic for Yasmin.

If your pill is monophasic, which means all the pills (except the placebos) are the same dosage of the same medicine, then you can. I’m doing that with sprintec right now.

Yep, I’ve done it with several types of pills, it’s fine. On the pill, there is no medical reason to have a period.

Pharmacist here – it’s perfectly safe to do with Ocella, because it is a monophasic (one hormone level constantly) pill. You may still get slight breakthrough bleeding or some cramping but you’re not likely to get a full period.

@gina0485: I second that my doctor has always told me it could cause some break through bleeding the next week and cramping but it wont hurt your body or anything

I have done it, and got some breakthrough bleeding and cramping, but it wasn’t too bad!

I did it with Yasmin (ocella) and had no problem. My Gyn said I could do it for 3 months at time.

As others have said, it is just fine. My doctor has been on BC continuously.

My dr has me on Orcella for the last 3 years and only have periods 4 times a year. So go ahead its safe. If you start spotting, then its time to have a period usually, if its been too long.
