So my husband and I decided that I would get off the pill – today is day one!
I’m not sure what to expect. I’ve been on the pill for several years – for those of you who have stopped taking the pill, are there any strange things to expect? My husband is afraid I will loose my boobs – not that I have much to start with!
I’m afraid there will be spotting?? How will my hormones act?!?
Oh – and I guess now I need to start tracking my period?! (Birth Control pills make that easy!) I should have my period every 28 days – right?!?

I didn’t really notice anything other than an irregular period for the first couple months. I was so nervous I was pregnant because my first period came really late and was more like light spotting. Then the next month was super long and heavy. After a couple of months, everything normalized itself back out and now my cycle is 29 days on the dot. I didn’t notice anything in terms of boobs or sex drive or hormones, though, but I think it’s different for everyone.
ETA – I use Period Tracker on the iPhone.. it’s free and easy. Now that I know my cycle length, it’s nice to just open the app and know I have 5 days til my period or whatever. You can also chart symptoms and it tells you when you’re ovulating/fertile, but I’m not sure how accurate that is. I just use it to know when Aunt Flo is making her arrival!

The 28 day cycle is just an average, that doesn’t mean that you will have yours at the same schedule. I would consider charting. There are a lot of threads about NFP on the TTC boards.

Going off the pill didn’t affect my body at all. I didn’t gain/lose weight, boobs are the same size, not sickness, breakouts, etc. The only thing is the pill regulated your periods, now it will not. I recommed charting to determine cycle lenght, fertile period, etc. I didn’t and now after 4 months off the pill I need to start charting since I have had no regulatrity since going off.

@ Nicoley1985 – I didn’t realize there were apps for your period! ha ha!! That’s funny! But good to know!

I stopped taking HBC in Aug, and I’m currently mid cycle 3 right now.
i’ve gained some weight (but that’s also cause I stopped my “wedding diet” when I got married in Aug.
I’ve had a major face break out (like nothing i’ve ever experienced, but it didn’t show up until beginning of this cycle, and is going away now)
and I’ve been kida moody right around AF.
My cycles have been 39 and 41 days, and i’m currently on CD 26 with no o, so I’m thinking it’ll be another long one…
I chart, since we’re TTA right now, and it’s super helpful, although frustrating since I know things aren’t going on yet….

Ok – seeing how I’m new to all of this, how can I find out what all the abriviated words mean?!? TTA?? CD?? NFP??

I was off for a few months when I moved and had a hard time finding a new physician with time to write me a perscription, and found that it wasn’t that big a deal and I was pretty much my pre-pill self (I didn’t gain/lose weight, cup sizes or experience mood changes when going on or off).
– my period was “late” (whatever that means, when I don’t have hormones forcing me into a 28 day cycle, before the pill I was on a 30-32 day cycle)
– more cramping before my period
– longer periods (7 vs. 5 days)
– more prone to zits/breakouts

I know my periods (before the pill) were heavy, lasted 7 days, and I had HORRIBLE cramping. Since being on the pill, my periods are between 2-4 days, very light, and very little cramping….
I’m not looking forward to that changing back…

I stopped the pill on January 29 of this year after 13 years on the pill. My first cycle off the pill was 47 days long. And it was HEAVY…heavy cramps and bleeding. The next one after that was around 35 days long. Eventually I got regular after that cycle and are now at a regular 30 day cycle. Now I am not as heavy and don’t have as bad of cramps – it does get better! 🙂

@Ashley1001: Yeah it is kinda funny there’s an app for your period haha
This should help with the abbreviations, I’m lost on all the TTC/pregnancy threads too.
