I don’t know much about PCOS and BC. Can you get an IUD? I have one and it affects my sex drive a bit, but not nearly as much as the thousand different pills I tried did.

I have PCOS…I’m on Zarah.  I do feel like it has an impact on my sex drive as well…hard to get into things.  I tried Ocella and had an allergic reaction with erythema nodosum.  Not fun.  I plan on dropping off later this year to TTC.

I was on Ortho Tri and had serious side effects (Massive bruising all over my body) that stopped when I changed to Lo’Ovral (I’m on the generic Cryselle).

A copper IUD might be right up you’re alley if you want to avoid hormones.

ETA: I’ve had no side effects, sexually, weight-wise, libido wise or otherwise on my current pill.

@jlc3:  I have been on alyacen and I take it continuously so I never get a period. I have no side effects and it works so much better than anything I have taken. It is also cheap and  I am very happy with it.

Ortho Tri was HORRIBLE for me and my PCOS.  It made all of my symptoms 100% worse (moodiness, and acne mostly).  I was a crying mess basically ALL of the time.  I am currently on Seasonique – and while it’s still “the pill” it has been a blessing.  My acne has died down (not gone, but died down), my weight is manageable, and my hormone swings are stable for the most part.  I definitely reccommend it.

I know there is a specific pill you can take (not a BC pill) when you’re ready ttc.  I think it starts with an “M”… not sure… as I’m not quite at that stage.  All I remember is that my endocrinologist mentioned it to me as an option.  Basically it makes you ovulate each month.

Good Luck!

@jlc3:  When I was on Ortho Tri, I was visiting my husband (Then boyfriend) for three weeks. I started it when I left. When I came home, I literally looked like a domestic abuse victim. I had a black eye (Which I got by rubbing my eyes), and I had large, deep black and blue bruises over my entire body. Some were the size of dinner plates.

My gyno refused to change my pill, refused to test me for anything and flat out told me “It wasn’t the pill.” That was the only medication that was different.

I went to public health instead and got Lo’Ovral. The bruising took about six weeks to go away. It’s been two years now with not a single bruise.

@jlc3:  yes! that’s it! I know a few people who have had success, like you said, after a few months!

Good Luck with it all – she sounds like a Dr. who has your best interests in mind.
