Am I the only one getting really sick of all the stupid diamond/engagement commercials?? I understand that it’s “proposal season” but every time a Zales or Jared or Kay commercial comes on it makes me so annoyed/bitter. It’s also awkward with my SO because it’s completely the elephant in the room.
I’m lucky that I’m in the situation where I know a proposal is coming, but I honestly don’t think it’s going to happen this year or any time soon. I just want the holidays to be over already so I stop thinking, “But maybe it will happen on X day!” Sigh. Cranky today, bitch with me and/or empathize?

I am really sick of these commercials so I’ll bitch with you. lol It does get awkward when they come on with the SO in the room. We are waiting for the SO to get a new job before the proposal would even be thought of. I was flipping through the channels and it was I kid you not 9 ring commercials in a row on 9 channels.

@Evanstobe: ugh! I remember being in your position, and when I saw this year’s ads, it was awkward rendering how awkward it was last year. Honestly, I don’t think the awkwardness of those commercials ever goes away. Regardless of your standings, relationship-wise, those ads are tailored to make women crazy. I haven’t asked him, but I’m pretty sure FI never noticed a single one of them, since the other day he commented on one that has been on the air for years. (It’s the open hearts one with the daughter)
What I did last holiday season was, every time one of those commercials came on, I found something else to concentrate on, like finding a snack or how cute our cat was being. Unfortunately, I think all you can do is distract yourself!

@Evanstobe: I’m very recently engaged after a long wait, and those commercials were killing me!!! I was just like ahhhh I can’t wait any more! The commercials do make it harder. I’d always leave the room and reward myself with chocolate to placate me :p

My FI and I have found that we’re a lot happier and our self esteem is a lot higher because we don’t ever watch commercials. Netflix is awesome.

@CW2BMrsF: It’s so awkward! I try to make a joke…but it comes across weird (in my head)
It’s so funny because talking marriage is fine, and so is babies, buying a house, etc., but talking about engagement or proposal is totally taboo.
@atreyu547: I’m sorry your proposal was lackluster! I don’t care for a proposal, it doesn’t have to be this big, blown out thing; I just want him as my husband.
I’m loving the chocolate idea! I don’t need any reason to eat chocolate but that is as good as any! We have netflix but SO watches football (like right now) and flips between shows during play breaks.

Same boat. We can talk about marriage, babies, houses, and all that. Just the engagement is a rough spot.

stupid commercials…i think the REAL reason they write them is to annoy us…NOT to remind men..like they think they are.

@Evanstobe: those commercials are the devil lol

I am so glad I’m not alone! They’re so frickkin stupid.

@Evanstobe: They were meant to make us fantasize about Holiday proposals and then make us angry and depressed when we realize we are not gettig one. lol. the one i hate the most? the couple in the cabin during the storm where he says he will never let her go (or something like that)…makes me want to puke!!!

Ugh yes and no. Ill see those crazy commercials and it takes all my c strength not to blurt out that I’ll be getting a ring soon. I mean who wouldn’t want to share in the excitement? But yes it does get annoying seeing all those happy smiling people with their loved ones holding a Kays Jewelers box.:/

@Evanstobe: Ugh. I have had to turn the tv off this whole month because I know he has a ring!! My head is telling me it will not happen over this holiday season. .. but that doesn’t mean I believe myself!! I am over-analyzing everything we have coming up between now and NYE that could even potentially be a time for him to propose. I’m going CRAZY.

@Evanstobe: I don’t have cable at my house but SO has it at his and I saw a commercial for the chocolate diamonds. I joked with him that if he got me a chocolate diamond I’d say “no” lol (nothing against them, just not my style) and obviously I’d say yes no matter what he presented me with.
I just try to make a joke about them. I’m pretty sure my proposal is coming this season, so I don’t want to comment too much about what I like and don’t like unless I KNOW he wouldn’t buy it. He has very classic and traditional taste so I bet it’s a round solitair with a white/colorless stone 😉
I just try to pretend like I don’t notice or am not interested in the commercial…
