Have you considered finding a mapmaker on Etsy? Or having an artistic friend draw one freehand?
Check out Mrs. Hibiscus's post "DIY Invitation Map." I thought it would be difficult, but I did it yesterday and it was super easy. I LOVE the results I got too!
I used Etsy seller, "lilacsandlace" She was just getting started and was only going to charge me $3 (she designed it and I printed them). I went back and forth a couple of times with her until they were exactly like I wanted AND she had the design finished the next day, so I paid her $10. She was fabulous to work with!

I was curious about the Mrs Hibiscus post, so I looked it up. Here it is!
I've drawn a fee for friends and I sold one. If you need help message me.

I tried to follow some of the tutorials on Weddingbee, but couldn't make them work for me. In the end I printed a map from Google Maps and then traced it with vellum. Then I scanned that and cleaned it up a little bit.
I ended up printing a map of the small city where the ceremony is in Green the highlighted the route in white, using my Gocco. I'm really proud of how they turned out. I'm at work or I'd post a picture.
Power point is easy to use and has a lot of cute clipart. I did mine last night! Let me know if you need any help!!
Soo.. I just did my map on Powerpoint and it looks AMAZING!! Exactly what I wanted and it only took like 20 minutes. Thanks Bees!! I don't know what I would do without you!
Try printing out a google map then hand tracing the roads you need on tracing paper. You can then scan it back into your computer and add the fonts/photos and whatever else you want to it. Here's ours that my DH did just that way:

I used Google maps. Print screen and drop it into an editing program. Remove the details you don't need, bold over the routes that are important. Add text and GIFS for points of interest (hotels, venue etc). resize, print and you are good to go.
This is my project for the weekend as well. If I find some good, helpful sites (in addition to those previously listed here), I'll pass them along!
Those maps are amazing. I was thinking about using google maps but I'll give freehand a try first.
my fiance did ours in adobe illustrator or some fancy program like that. but all he did was google and google for a map of the area and found one on like the town board website or something like that that was pretty much what we wanted. in a cute style already because they probably hired a pro to make that one! then he X'd all the details we didn't need, and added to it what we did need. definitely easiest if you have a starting point.
I love the idea of tracing the roads from Google maps! Then did you just reinsert images for like the route signs?
My brother and sister-in-law order theirs from some website that I can't find for anything now! Maybe it went out of business since so many people DIY?? I remember looking at that website once and it was really not that expensive. like $100 maybe? That included design and like 100 copies on random paper...but they don't assume any kind of copyright on the image so they took it to their invite printer and had them scan it and put on better cardstock. sorry i don't know the company name :(

I am doing DIY invitations and I have been trying to find a simple map to include but am unable to find one I like. I have tried mapquest and yellowpages but am not a fan. There is too much going on.
I want a map similar to what you get with pro invites...
Any ideas?
