I hate the smell of cooking stew – even stew that, when finished, I will enjoy eating, I can’t stand the smell of it simmering in the pot. I have to go somewhere else and close the door to get away.
But I LOVE the smell of air conditioners. It’s so nostalgic for me – I lived in a biggish old house as a kid, but we had no money for things like central air, so when I was alone all day in the summer during middle school my parents would let me air condition ONE room with one of those heavy behemoths you shove in the window and then pull out those little zigzaggy flaps on either side. I’d pick the family room and hang out on the internet all day.
I can’t get enough of that weird feeling of stepping out of the A/C into the damp heat to get lunch or go to the bathroom or what have you… then coming back and getting hit with that wave of artificially cooled air pumped out by the growling window unit. I always hear people complain about the smell from an A/C but to me it just smells like lazy, comfortable times.
What unpopular opinions do you have about smells? Love smells others hate? Hate smells others love?

@Bebealways: I love the smell of swimming pools. Maybe it reminds me on holidays? I don’t know!

@Bebealways: cut grass and sun cream.

@Bebealways: Let’s see… I love the smell of brand new sneakers and new car smell. 🙂 Fiancé thinks I’m crazy.

I love the smell of Crayola crayons, especially the first time you open the box. No other brand, only Crayola.

@Soon2BD-CBee: Sun cream is totally a weird one! I know tons of people who’d rather get sunburned than put it on, they dislike the smell so much.
@MiJeS1104: I’m polarized here. I LOOOVEEEE new sneaker/shoe store smell. Shoe stores have the most wonderful smell, seriously. But I have never met a new car smell that didn’t make me wanna gag.

Hot blacktop and outside after it rains.
@Soon2BD-CBee: Cut grass is also amazing!

Gas stations. I have no idea why I love the smell, but I do and so does my FI. Ironically, my FI and I drive an electric car and don’t go to gas stations as much.

I love the smell of fresh cut grass or grass just after it rains
Also the smell of books, new or old, doesn’t matter 🙂

@Bebealways: A/C smell is my go-to mental happy place when I feel slightly queasy. It’s a cool and clean smell. I love it too. It also reminds me of good times; the smell of the radio station where I worked Friday nights and the smell of the recording studio where I work now.
I love the smell of horse, horse sweat on leather tack, sweet horse feed and different grasses. I particularly enjoy the smell of fresh teff (like timothy grass) and lucerne (alfalfa SIC).
I love the smell of the inside of my mom’s handbag; chanel and oil of olay.

Oh, grass after a rain is good. I love the smell of a downpour / thunderstorm. I LOVE the smell of a fresh jar / pack of coffee. I sniff it like an addict! lol. Smells I hate, not many but really don’t like the smell of wet dog. I agree with the sun cream and swimming p9ols as a nice reminder of good weather and holidays.

I was actually going to start a post like this yesterday!
I LOVE the smell of puppy breath. They have a very distinct smell when they’re puppies and I willingly let them lick my face because of said smell.
I also love the smell of plastic, but it has to be a very specific type. Usually new bathroom plastic certains have it.
I love/get extremely turned on by the scent of cologne/after shave my fiance uses.
I love the smell of warm scents like vanilla, chocolate, or baked goods candles.
I HATE the smell of seafood! I.just.can’t. Fun fact: I used to work at a seafood restaurant. Talk about hell.
