Lots of people have black dresses and I think they always look good.  But if the only reason you want to go with black is because you can't think of a good color to go with lavender, then there are plenty of other colors.    What kind of look are you going for?  pastels?  how about peach or a vintage gold or yellow.  something bolder?  a deep purple or a royal blue.  there are so many options.  good luck!11

I absolutely LOVE the idea of black BM dresses... I'm considering it for my own wedding. I think black is classy, no matter what the season, but obviously since it's summer, you wouldn't want a super heavy material or shape.

What style/silhouette are you thinking about?

I'm going the black bm dress route as well.  Like sahcha, I wanted each girl to look as beautiful and different as they really are.  I also wanted something that would acutally be reusable, and who doesn't need a black dress?  I'm having a formal wedding, so their dresses will be floor length,  and I'll be having a lot of fun with contrasting colors.

I'd say definitely go for the black dresses and have fun!

I love black for summer!  It really allows the flower colors to POP.  We're doing black BM dresses as well, and BRIGHT florals -- purple, orange, red and light green.

Just make sure the fabric's light, and the cut/length seasonally appropriate.

I'm doing long black BM dresses- in May, in FL, I might add. I picked a light taffeta material so they are very light weight and they flow very well. I think that black will look very elegant and sophisticated, when done correctly. I know that tea length black can look super cute with a pop of color for the shoes (or even fun and funky black and gold or silver and gold shoes). I wanted floor length dresses because my wedding is pretty formal. Just make sure that the material is the right one for your date, location, etc etc.

My wedding is in June, and I'm having black BM dresses.  My flowers and accents are bright colors so they will pop against the black.

Black is original.  In many far eastern cultures white signifies death and is worn at a funeral (never at a wedding)!

I had a customer who ordered custom wedding rings with black diamonds.  She was sort of goth, with black lipstick and nail polish, black hair...  Both his and hers were rings with black diamonds. They can be viewed at   http://www.maidstonejewelry.com/rings/index.htm  Item R372/373 (left lower corner).

    Good luck with your wedding.

I had a cousin who got married last June and had beautiful black bridesmaid dresses. The girls looked really nice and if you do lavender flowers, they would really pop against the dark background. If you're really set on lavender, you could look at all the different color combos others have done too.. I've seen some really nice weddings with lavendar and sage green combined.

very different. i like the idea. when i first heard of it 2-3 years ago, i found it weird, but after looking at millions of bm dresses the last few weeks, i would tell anyone to go for it!!

i originally wanted to use black dresses and probably would have, but our wedding colors are apple green and chocolate brown. i think it's a great choice because everyone looks good in black.

I'm having my bridesmaids wear black dresses; they can pick their own, as long as it's knee length or below. I'm hoping that this way they'll actually wear them again!

I'm having a July wedding and my BM are wearing black dresses. I think it's classic and helps the ever popular "you'll wear it again!"

    Black is always in style.

I think black looks great - and it really will make your flowers look awesome. I also agree though that there are lots of colors that will look wonderful with lavender. The great thing about black BM dresses is that they will DEFINITELY be reworn! I think JCrew has some really cute options right now.

Black is an incredible base color with which to add your other color(s).  It does make any bright color pop!

That being said, we're doing the little black dress for the bridesmaids also!

Also having been a bridesmaid umpteen times over the years, I have a closet full of dresses I will never wear again.  I've sold many of them and it was honestly a waste of money.  Had I been given the option of wearing a little black dress?  I would have LOVED it so much more!

With the economy being so poor right now, I think it is important to think of our friends.  Do we want them to spend their $$ on something they will not wear again?  Or is the dress purchase something that brings a smile to everybody involved?

The beauty of the LBD is that they can be the same fabric but different styles, with whatever style being most flattering to each girl.  I know I wouldn't look good in a dress that my best friends looks incredible in.  Plus I don't want them to be a carbon copy of one another and express some creativity.  I have asked them however to wear the matching jewelry that I plan on purchasing for them and wear black strappy heels.

My girls wore black with a grayish-silverish accent.  They looked very nice and they can wear their dresses again.  I bought the dress from Mexx.

Here are a few shots of the wedding party.  And I agree, it is a very classic look and it's nice to give your bridesmaids something that they can wear again.

My bridesmaids are wearing their own black dress for the wedding.  I know it's been frowned upon by some in the past, but these days black doesn't necessarily have a "meaning."  Plus, I bet your bridesmaids will love you for it!

I've thought of doing black for our winter wedding, too! I'm curious as to how well it will photograph, though.

Still, I don't think black is inappropriate for a summer wedding. Just choose a light fabric and dress it up with some bright, fun, colorful jewelry and shoes and your girls will look phenomenal!

My BM are wearing black dresses for our May 16th wedding.  I wanted a simple, classic look and thought they'd enjoy picking out their own LBD to wear again.  My future MIL was the only person who seemed a little surprised by my color choice.  I think that you can definitely wear them and they'll look great.

I'm having an August wedding & my girls will be wearing black tea-length dresses with a colored ribbon around the waist.  My fiance's mom gave me a lot of flack about it, actually saying I was "crazy" for wanting my girls to wear black, especially in August, but after showing her some pictures of how classy it can look, she's come around.

I love love love the black BM dress, both as a bride and as a BM. It's a color that should work for everyone and gives you a great neutal palette to play with.

My BMs are in black and had the chance to choose their own (if they don't want to use it again it's their choice, not because it is a candidate for uglydress.com). I have a color palette of 9 different colors and each woman will have a different pairing of colors so that they all pop. In order to make the black pop even more, we're DIYing wraps for them to wear during the ceremony.
