I was just noticing how many bee’s posted their black diamond e-rings recently! My Future bro-in-law’s girlfriend wants a black diamond for her center stone also! I honestly had no idea they existed until Mr. Jansen & I were looking @ e-rings together. I personally like the look, especially when they’re paired w/a paler stone! I posted a board recently asking bee’s to post their colored gem e-rings. In that post I explained why I want a colored gem e-ring, and why I was somewhat against diamonds. I found this beautiful aquamarine ring, w/ black diamond accents & I loved the look. I began to research about black diamonds and found that they’re pretty pricey because they’re fairly rare.
I just wanted to know if this was a new craze? I have nothing against them, I was just noticing that lot’s of bee’s happen to be sporting this genuine rock! If any of you bee’s do have a black diamond, can you tell me whether or not they truly are more expensive? They make for a beautiful ring! Although it’s not my style, I still like them!

I’ve never seen one in person. They are pretty.

I have a black diamond ring that I bought years ago that was from the 20’s and it is beautiful. Like any other stone, the expense depends on the quality of the stone.

I’ve never heard of anybody having one. I personally don’t ever see traditional clear diamond engagement rings ever going out of being the norm so I wouldn’t worry about all of a sudden everyone having a black diamond– even if it gets/is ‘popular’ it would still be very unique, as with all colored stones.
ETA: Just reread your post and saw that your intent was to learn about the price, not worrying about popularity– like PP said, stone prices always vary with quality.

I don’t think it’s a trend. At least not in my area. I haven’t seen anyone wearing a black diamond, nor have I seen them in jewelry stores. We’ll see in the future though!

I haven’t seen anyone wearing a black diamond solitaire ring yet, although I’ve seen a lot of rings with smaller black diamonds (pave style, for example). I would like to see a larger black diamond to see how sparkly it is. I think it would be really unique and striking!

All I can think of after this post is this scene from Sex and the City 2.
Mr.Big tells Carrie she must wear a black diamond ring to remind herself that she is married. A black diamond because she isn’t like other women.

@Msjansentobe: If you remember, Sarah Jessica Parker in sex and the city receives one from Mr Big. This is when they started being popular.

@Msjansentobe: Maybe if it’s a trend people will stop acting like my engagement ring is so weird. 😛 (But I doubt that’s gonna happen!)
