Hey, great question! I thought of that too, but I remembered:
The post office has these stickers that they put on the front for sorting if they need to print any sorting mark, so not a big deal there; Also, if you use light colored stamps OR glue a pink strip under the stamp, they should be able to read it.
I doubt they'd sell black envelopes if they couldn't be used, was my final thought. So I'm using them!
I think it's a great idea! I don't see why it would be a problem!
i'm also using the black envelopes. I don't see any reason for that to be a problem:)
You can use them. Either use a very light color (but opaque) ink, or the labels you mentioned will be fine. :)
I used them for my inner envelopes, but wanted to originally use them for the outer. The lady at the post office I went to for stamps, said it wasn't a great idea. I guess sometimes the machine can't read it very well, and they get lost in limbo. I figured better safe than sorry (some got lost anyway... sigh) and used them as my inner.
We've used black envelopes! In fact, we sent over 500 of them for business purposes several months ago, and had no problems with it. The only issue for us, however, was that we didn't want to use labels, and obviously clear ones with black text won't work (FYI, clear ones with white text don't work either! The text is not solid enough to show up against it). So, we ultimately opted to find a white pen and write them out by hand. Or rather, *I* wrote them all out by hand. But aside from that, they mailed out just fine!
Just make sure to use either labels like you mentioned, or a good solid white pen, if you opt for calligraphy.
Does anyone of a picture of what the black envelope looks like once it has been received on the other end? I don't know why I didn't think about this before! We are using personalized stamps too - will they be ruined during the mailing process?
I've received several things over the years in black envelopes with no issues at all from the post office.
Don't have pictures but in high school (ages ago), my best friend's mom sent out graduation invites in black envelopes with metallic gel pen and they arrived at their destinations no differently than anything else. It really is not an issue.
Does anyone have a picture of what a black envelope looks like after it gets to the recipient? I am also considering using black envelopes!

Has anyone used black envelopes for anything? I'm wanting to use them for my wedding invitations, with a cute pink stripe along the front for the addresses, but I don't know if they'll cause a problem at the post office?! You can't really see the postmark on a black envelope....has anyone done this?
