I'm using black tablecloths as well. I feel like when the tables are dressed up with flowers and pretty napkins, it will still look happy! We are doing black and light pink.
I don't think anyone will be thinking of a funeral on your wedding day. The day will be so full of joy, and I think all of your guests will just see the tablecloths as part of your decor...
I used black table clothes with white chair linens and they looked great! Its very elegant! Try showing him photos online with bright colored napkins or flowers so he can see your side of it!
Thats not the greatest photo... you could check out www.collages.net

look under pre-wedding and also reception for better photos of black tablecloths with white chairs!
Or google it =)
i think black could work really well. a friend of mine shared with me the attached photo of black tablecloths with bright flower petals- really helps the colors stand out!
I think it is a great look:) I am using black table cloths, white chair covers, and black chair sash. I will probably use a damask runner or square. Go for it I think it is a beautiful look.
I think it's very sophisticated and elegant! I especially like the use of white table covers with the black ties.
@emdash:My FI is the same way. Our colors are gold, ivory, and black. I didn't want the bridesmaids to wear gold gowns, and of course ivory is out of the question, so I chose black. My FI says, "They are wearing black? Black is for funerals."

This was the last Black tablecloth wedding I did and it was far from funeral. The country club said it was the most beautiful wedding they had done in 11 years!
I think black tables are fine, I am just not sure about the white chair covers. With the exception of the third picture I don't really like the combo.
Hi Emdash, do you have any pictures of your wedding decor? Your colors are really similar to mine and I'm having a hard time picking the decor colors (table cloth, centerpiece flowers, etc)!
We did black overlays and white chair covers and I loved the look. I'll try to upload some pics. You should definitely try to show your FI some pictures of black linens in rooms set up for weddings. Hopefully he'll agree once he can actually visualize it. Good luck!
@Soon2BMrsMiles: Can you tell me where you found these tablecloths? These are gorgeous and would go great with our wedding.
Thanks!!

Fiance and I are having a disagreement over the linens. We are getting married at a hotel and would like to use their stock linens/chair covers (white/black/navy) rather than adding an extra expense. We are already adding turquoise napkins for a pop of color on the tables.
My preference would be black table linens with white chair covers, but he says it's funebrial and dark. He only equates black with sadness and death, while I see it in a more aestetically pleasing light. I think it will anchor the room and make the blue napkins pop (wedding colors are turquoise, cherry red, with neutrals of black and stark white). Plus I like the modernity of it. He is avidly pushing for all white because it says "wedding"
This is a sampling:
Me: "But you boys are wearing black suits. Why not black tablecloths?"
Him: "We wear black to help you stand out in white."
Me: "Then wouldnt black tablecloths help me stand out more?"
Him: "It's ugly."
