I just got invited to my cousins wedding and the invitation says black tie invited. My research shows that it means the same as black tie optional. Some sites say you can wear knee length dresses, other say not to. This is thedress I was planing on wearing… is it appropriate?

Is your husband going to wear a tux?
Idk to me, black tie is a little longer, but it could work if your hubs is in a tux.

To me personally, a shorter dress is more ‘cocktail’ while a long dress would be more appropriate if people will be wearing black tie attire.

martha stewrt wedding ettiquette states that today, unlike earlier years, a short dress is acceptable at black tie as long as it is of a luxery weqave material such as satin or chiffon …hope that helps

Perfectly appropriate. Look at the Oscars and other red carpet events. Women wear all styles and lengths to those. No one has the right to judge you for what you are wearing which is most definitely acceptable and appropriate for the event.

Thanks for the feedback! The dress is satin so I was thinking it is ok but wasn;t sure cuz of the length. I was not going to make my hubby buy or rent a tux… we’ve spent enough on this wedding already with all the travel accomodations! He has a really sharp looking dark suit with a vest that he got when he bought his wedding suit that he’s been dying to wear!

I’m not sure what’s proper, but I voted for yes because I love that dress. 🙂
