I don't think you've broken any tux etiquette for a summer wedding. Our wedding is in June, the ceremony is in the early evening, and FI and the groomsmen will all be in black tuxes. (actually, our wedding colors are black and white)! As long as you like it, then that's all that matters!
With a formal church, I think black is almost better. But I'm not a summer bride, so I wouldn't really know.
We had black tuxes for our July wedding. There is no tux etiquette for a summer wedding. Some people do lighter colors if they are having a beach wedding or an outdoor wedding where the tuxes will be too hot. But black tuxes are fine!
My wedding is in August...church ceremony is at 3:30pm..we are having black tuxes...reception starts at 6:30pm....black is even one of our wedding colors...so I think you are fine with it!

Our wedding is at 3pm in July ~ We are getting married in what I would consider a very formal church and our Reception will run from about 4-7:30pm. We had looked at beige suits, but they had a far more yellow hue in person so we decided on black. Apparently - we have now broken the tux etiquette for a summer wedding.
Sigh * I am not sure what other options we have if it isn't black ...
