I have picked a Henry Roth wedding dress and I love it. (I am going back to the salon in a week to put frst payment and order it)
But I worry as my original dream was to wear a red or black dress. We are most definatly non-traditional!
I am having a Gothic Glam/Dark Romance theme and I dont think the dress suits the theme very well. When I showed my Maid/Matron of Honor the dress I fell in love with at the store she asked if I wanted to keep looking. I was like WTF?
The wedding colours are gem tones; ruby, emerald, sapphire, amythyst with black and silver.
I want my makeup to be a little gothic, and my accesories too. But I have no idea on how to tie in my dream dress and my theme.
Am I making a big deal over nothing? Should I keep looking?
Here is the dress (I dont have a pic of me in it as the consultant wouldnt let us take a pic)
And this is the style of makeup I am thinking of going for
I love this headpeice, but will it work with the dress?
My Hubby to be will be wearing this as a boutonniere with a single dark rose.
I know this is not everyones cup of tea but I am searching for some nice honest opinions that are helpful and insightful.

@laura.batty: I say go for it! A black dress would be too much with the rest of your look, IMO. A little contrast is just what you need to tie it all together.
P.S. I’m not normally a fan of head pieces but I love the one you’ve chosen!

It’s a beautiful dress! I think if you accessorised correctly it would fit in with your theme 🙂

Anyone have any ideas of what accessories? Earrings? Headdress?

@laura.batty: I think you can accessorize and style your makeup, hair, and accessories to show off your theme fine. Would it be possible to have alternations add some kind of black accents to it – maybe a blingy black sash/belt, and/or an edge of black lace or something at the hemline/neckline? Could be beautiful. I love the headpiece, I had something like that! 🙂
The dress may not be red or black like you envisioned (which I totally dig, I had a mostly-black dress for part of my photoshoot and a blue one for the rest of the day… an all black mermaid had been on the short list!) but if it makes you have that beautiful bride feeling, it IS very dramatic and could be styled into something with a darker glamour to it.

I think you should go for it! Maybe some statement black/red jewelry, and DEF black/red shoes.
OR are you planning on wearing an underskirt? How cool would a black/red underskirt be under the dress?!? Or if it’s a corsette back, maybe you could get the corsette strings in another color?

I say rock the dress that one the white one…. use the make up and the touches to pull your theme into your wedding look it will be more dramatic more effective and not end up looking to costume if you do the black dress with all the make up and touches will be over kill
i love that dress and i think with the detials you picked it will rock

Does the dress have a corset back? I know my Henry Roth doesn’t, maybe he doesn’t do corset backs, but if it does, you could always lace it with black ribbon. It’s a gorgeous dress and I think you’d be able to make it work with your theme really well. That being said, there are some fantastic goth dresses out there, but with everything else you’re planning, I think you run the risk of getting too “costumey,” which is not your goal.

I think it can absolutely fit.
Have a look at these gothic weddings with the bride in white: http://offbeatbride.com/2012/06/california-gothic-wedding http://offbeatbride.com/2013/04/new-york-goth-mansion-wedding
I actually think the contrast of a glam gothic theme, together with the bride in white makes for a really sophisticated look. You can go totally over the top with the accessories (check out the phenomenal choker on the second bride) – dye your hair, maybe a black beaded cuff?

@Eat-well-travel-often: Thankyou Soo Much for the link! OMG! That wedding is very similar to what I imagined in my head!
I am dying my hair; I am thinking of doing an updo similar to this with Red and Blonde.

@luluvohn: I dont want the wedding to look like a Halloween party, so I get what you mean by too costumey. I tried on a Henry Roth ballgown it was a corset back, I like the idea of the ribbon being black.

@giru618: I would have never thought of a red/black underskirt, Thankyou for the idea! I will talk to the consultant and I hope I will have some options there.

It might be worth checking out the rocknroll bride website for inspiration too.

@Bebealways: Do you have any pics to share? I would love to see.
Also where did you get your headdress? I have been stalking etsy and a few are awesome but WAY over my budget.

- Wedding: April 2012 - Chateau Briand
that dress is gorgeous! I love the headpiece but like how it looks with the hair down, I think it gives it that goth feel. the second updo you posted looks a little more pin up than anything. I’m thinking maybe lace gloves would add nicely to the theme and tie it all together 🙂
