FI is such a sweet man, but he doesn’t have a romantic bone in his body. He’s the most practical man I know when it comes to money, which I love and respect about him.
I’m all about romance, and I’m a show-them-how-to-treat-you type of gal, so early on I would plan all these fun treats and surprises, but then I realized that FI (then boyfriend), though he enjoyed the surprises, didn’t pick up hints well. So I flat out had to eventually tell him, “Um babe, I REALLY like surprises…” LOL he had no clue until I told him.
This morning, I get an email from him that read, “I have a surpise for you:) It’s really good, but don’t ask me about it because I won’t tell you.” I’m thinking “OMG dinner somewhere? something shiny? what can it be?!” Being that us women are always a few steps ahead, I checked our Amazon.com account and saw that he searched black work shoes and weight lifting gloves, so I’m guessing it’s one or the other. LOL not exactly romantic, but I did mention a few days ago that I needed both. His attempts are so sweet and endearing, and I totally love him for trying.

Haha! That’s adorable! My FI isn’t all that romantic either, in fact last night I came home with some flowers for HIM! Talk about a hint, lol. I love your story. I bet the surprise for you is both of those things, what a sweet guy you have.

@Sunfire: Aw I hope he appreciated your flowers! FI buys me potted flowers/plants because fresh cut flowers die too quickly… go figure.

Sounds like my hubby! The most romantic gifts I’ve received from him are waterproof earbuds and Woot! shirts. LOL. But he tries and that’s all that counts.

Yeah, I didn’t get anything for Valentine’s day, so I explained to him that if he did random little things all the time, Valentine’s day wouldn’t really matter to me. He felt bad, and said, okay, but now I have to wait until you’ve forgotten you asked. It’s been a month, and nothing. To be fair, that’s probably because every 2 weeks, I ask if he’s got a surprise for me. Man, that makes me sound horrible. Lol.

lol this is me actually!! I am uncomfortable with surprises and any kind of over the top romance. I mean I would be sad if it NEVER happened but its not something I think too much about. My SO is very good at this kind of stuff. And I never know how to react the right way. Im so awkward about it. He is totally the type that will get up in the morning extra early while im still asleep and take my car for gas, then go to get me starbucks (a treat for this dd girl) and have it waiting for me when i come downtstairs to leave for work. He has done some over the top stuff though too like writing me songs. one valentines day a few years ago he brought home a stuffed animal for me about 2 weeks before valentines day. Every day after that he would bring one home and each day they were bigger and bigger. On valentines day there was this giant stuffed bear as tall as me sitting in the front room. I am the fool in this situation that doesnt have the romance gene.

@missrobots: Dig the Woot! shirts!! I check all the time!
My guy’s the same way. On my last birthday he got me a thermos and put sticker letters on it that read “I picked this out for you”.
In his defense I thought it was so cute though! We had just watched the movie The Jerk.. and there’s a scene in there where Steve Martin’s character sings a silly song about picking out a thermos for yooooou.. We’re so werid! LOL

@stardustintheeyes: HAH! Me too! He leaves notes for me, and he sometimes makes dinner. I ask him what we’re having and he’s all secretive about it. I’m like- it is DINNER, not a surprise :/ Oh well, I love that he tries, and it encourages me to make more of an effort, but I’m not a big fan of surprises & big build ups.

haha Ahh, he’s trying! Gotta give him credit for that.
My fiance is not a romantic but he tries. He is a huge gamer, so everytime a game comes out that he wants he’ll always ask me if we have everything for the house, if there was anything I wanted or needed, then he’ll start talking about the game. I love that he thinks to ask me first and make sure we have the extra money.
He brings home little snacks or things that he thinks our daughter or myself would like (even if its something simple like an ice cream from up town haha). I don’t ask for much, but he does try so that is enough for me. 🙂
Who knows, maybe he’ll surprise you with something you wont expect 😡

@GeorgiaTeacup: That is so adorable 🙂 It’s even romantic in its own way, that he tries because he knows it makes you happy.
