My wedding is (tentatively) scheduled for late in the day on a Saturday in June. I’m starting to look at blocking out rooms for our OOT guests. My question is this: how many nights do we block out rooms for? If our wedding is Saturday night, should we block rooms for Friday and Saturday night? Most of our OOT guests are about four hours away, so I’m thinking most will just drive in Saturday and stay one night. Just wondering if there is etiquette for this sort of thing. Thanks!

You may want to talk to the hotel and ask if they will offer a discounted rate for the entire weekend? Block the rooms for Saturday for sure, and see if they will offer the rate for Friday. I know that with a wedding we are going to, they had a group rate quote that was good for friday and saturday

I would definitely block the rooms for Saturday night and perhaps 1/2 of the guests may want to come in on that Friday and make a weekend getaway of it. This may actually be something that you could ask on the save-the-dates or the rsvps….

Definitely check with the hotel because they all have different policies! Our hotel has a 2 night minimum so we could only block rooms for the bridal party and family/friends that are staying either both Fri. and Sat or even longer if they are coming from further away!

Our hotel was really flexibile with this- they blocked out rooms for Fri & Sat at a really good rate, and will extend the discounts to three days prior and three days after the wedding should guests come early or stay later. This is going to be in Miami Beach so, I’m hoping people make a mini vacation out of this! I feel so bad that it can get so expensive just to attend our wedding!

We blocked our rooms for Thursday-Monday, just in case some family/friends wanted extra padding. 🙂

How early is too early for blocking rooms? I’m a little less than a year away from my date and I’m wondering if I should start with this yet or if it is too soon. When are you supposed to do it?

I did mine a full year out. Some wouldn’t take reservations till then, others were already booked (We’re getting married on a campus, so there were conferences and other events). I’m just glad to have it out of the way!

Our hotel made the rate good for anytime between Wednesday – Sunday…so that covered it all. I think it just depends on the hotel that you’re looking at.
