    Bees I really need your medical expertise. Let me start by saying that I have no insurance, so while I know I should see a doctor, I am trying to figure out if I treat myself. Silly, I know. But when youre trying to pay for a wedding in September, you do silly things.

    Backstory:

    A week and a half ago I collided heads with another player while playing soccer. I went to urgent care because I had a gash on the left side of my forehead. The doctor glued the gash shut and put bandages on it and sent me on my way. Gash healed great, no side effects,... Then, this past Saturday I couldnt hear out of my left ear. It felt/feels like there is a bubble in my ear, and I havent gone swimming, nor have I returned to the soccer field. I didnt think much of the loss of hearing, just willed it to go away. Then yesterday and this morning I work up with blood in that ear. Do you think its an ear infection, or related to the soccer injury? Help Bee's!!!

    Its more than likely from the head trauma, go see the doctor. Not worth the risk!

    @misschickpea: agreed. There can be many causes, and you don't say how much bleeding you've had. You don't want to compromise your hearing in that ear and many ear traumas won't heal by themselves, they need a little help. I think you need to suck up the cost and go to the doctor!!

    Best of luck!

    Please, please, please go to the doctor!!  There are so many things that can be wrong, some very serious.

    You  need to be seen. No messing around. This could be serious.

    Does your ER offer free care if you can't afford it? I know in MA they do.

    I hope you feel better.

    @so_said_ellie:

    Oh, I forgot to mention that part (how much blood). Saturday I soaked up 2 full q-tips (4 ends) and today just 1 q-tip (both ends).

    So, a family friend hooked me up with a doctors visit and heres what I found out:

    The ear problem has no correlation with the soccer injury, nor is it an ear infection. Weird right?

    Apparently because I am an anal retentive ear-cleaner (with bobby-pins because I have hard wax), I have created a callous on my eardrum or inner ear (not sure which). This callous has caused hearing loss (hopefully temporary) in my left ear. I disturbed the callous, causing it to bleed. Moral of the story...dont use q-tips (and certainly not bobby-pins) to clean your ears. The doctor recommended using a solution weekly to get them clean.

    So, the good news...no brain injury, and no ear infection. Bad news...breaking a bad habit of overcleaning my ears, and possible permanent hearing loss.

    @Sschaf: q-tips are evil (but I use them anyway...)

    I'm glad you got it seen to! I think there are ear drops which you can use to soften the wax. I am lucky to not have major wax, but my colleague gets terrible sticky wax in one ear and hard wax in the other which needs to be removed endoscopically. She's had some luck with the drops for the hard wax though :)
