I don’t have this setting…however, to me it looks like you will see that..?? I personally don’t think it affects the overall look of the ring.  If you don’t like it when you receive it I think Blue Nile has a good return policy.

Congrats!!

@MsMeow:  I am not going to be much help now but I have to say I totally know what you mean about the weird shoulders! I used to always look on Blue Nile and this is the exact thing that turned me off them. Looking at stock photos, I know it would be an issue for me. I think, as you say, it wouldn’t make such an impact with a bigger stone.

Maybe it would be something you could learn to live with? I know it wouldnt be a problem for a lot of bees. Perhaps look at other online retailers to compare this issue? JamesAllen perhaps? Btw I have no experience of either, I’m just an online window shopper!

I hope you find the ring for you! Good luck 🙂

@MsMeow:  I would not get that setting.  They have many to choose from.

My ring has that! A small space between the shanks and the stone. I don’t notice it, but it’s covered mostly by the sides of my stone!

@MsMeow:  what about this one from Blue Nile? I think it’s very close in price to the other one you are considering?http://img.bluenile.com/is/image/bluenile/-diamond-engagement-ring-setting-white-gold-/setting_template_sidehand?$380_315$&$diam_shape=is{bluenile/sidehand_PR_standard_100}&$diam_position=-9,-110&$SKU_front=is{bluenile/20372_setsidehandfront}&$SKU_back=is{bluenile/20372_setsidehandback}&op_sharpen=0&resMode=sharp&op_usm=0.6,0.6,2,0&iccEmbed=0&rgn=714,643,540,550&wid=760&hei=630

I agree that I wouldn’t choose a cathedral setting if that would be a concern. There are plenty of standard solitaire settings that might suit you better, like the one shown above. Seeing the shoulders of the setting was a concern of mine, too, and I confirmed when I had the setting made and the stone set that they would be hidden (I ordered a stock setting, but made in 18K yellow gold instead, and although my stone was big enough to cover the shoulders, I had them taper them and make absolutely sure they would not show).

I had a similar problem with a setting that I purchased at blue nile and we returned it. Plus gunk and dirt will get trapped within the wedges. Either way you can trial it out and return it. Blue Nile do have an amazing return policy.

I like the one gemgirl6 posted!  I would go with that one, and ask if they could make it in a 1.5. 🙂

They can have the rings made slimmer, but that takes several extra weeks and costs a fair amount more than the in-stock settings. My setting is a 2.5 mm, and I considered having it made slimmer, but it wasn’t worth the cost. Additionally, since I wear mine constantly, I’d rather have it slightly sturdier. If you give them a call, they can work on an estimate for a thinner shank and call you back.

@MsMeow:  yes its their comfort fit setting, I actually like the mm width. As someone else pointed out, it will wear well when worn constantly as over time gold wears away.Smile
