I’ve picked the dress but need help with picking out colors. Everyone I’ve asked so far has a different opinion and I just can’t decide what will look best! The dress is the ever-popular Jim Hjelm 5653, and I’ve narrowed the color choices down to three (the first two I’ve seen in person, the third I’ve admired from Mrs. Lily’s photos):
1) Eggplant (this is a photo of the dress we’re going to use):
2) Moss (different dress):
3) Caribbean Blue (bm dresses in Mrs. Lily’s photos) – I’m drawn to this color but one of my bms said it would make her look "washed out."
Advice and pros/cons of different colors are welcome!

The third link didn’t work, so here is that photo again (posted on my private Flickr acct; hope Mrs. Lily doesn’t mind):

I can see why your BM might think the blue shade might make her look washed out; it would depend on her coloring though. It would look great with a strong contrasting colour like dark brown or auburn hair, but you might be able to bring in the right contrast with a darker coloured sash and matching darker necklace?
I understand the issue of liking a colour that your BM’s think will be unflattering. I’ve been drawn to a sage green colour but two of my BM’s and also my mother dislike it so I’m trying to find a darker green. I think a lot of people will say to just pick the colour you like, but if you like the other colours as well, then it is nice to try to find a colour that your girls like too. But ultimately you may have to eventually lay down the law and just pick – it’s hard to please everyone.
Since you asked, my favourite colour is the green one, but I’m biased – as I said I’m after a shade of green just like that one. Thanks for posting it by the way – I didn’t know Jim Hjelm carried that shade of green!

I think the reason that the Caribbean Blue looks so good is that all the BM’s have dark hair and darker facial features (dark brown eyebrows, dark eyes, etc.). I think that if your BM’s have lighter hair and are pale, then they might risk getting washed out.
Personally I love the eggplant. I think with the GM’s in tuxs it will look really sharp and really make your dress ‘pop’ out in pictures.

I like the eggplant or green. The blue is a little light and could definitely wash out certain skin/hair colors. But, what are the details of your wedding? time of day, year, where it it is, etc. will matter.

Two updates: 1) the blue shade in Mrs. Lily’s wedding is actually Tahitian, and 2) I found another color which I like more than the other three!
Patina (the darker color on this dress – the only good photo I could find, unfortunately):
I think this is more summery than the Eggplant or the Moss, but green is better for my BM who doesn’t like to wear light blue.
Oh, and my wedding in in the Bay Area in late June. Redwood Grove ceremony and boutique hotel reception.

Okay, green is definitely better for the summer than the eggplant. but if your wedding is in the summer, you girls may have more color than right now. I also would assume your girls know that when planning your wedding you obviously have a color scheme in mind. I would think they will compromise to make sure you have the wedding you want! So tell them you really want blue, if thats what you want!

I think it depends on your venue. ie If your wedding is in a darker church ballroom, I would pick the purple. But just make sure it won’t clash with the decor. I’m having a garden wedding, so I didn’t want green because it would just blend with the background. Also lighter colors look better for outdoor garden/beach settings, so I would have went with the blue. I wouldn’t worry about your bridesmaid, I personally think it would look great on a blond, plus she’ll have make-up on.
