So I just picked up my Bridesmaid or Best Man dress for my best friend’s wedding in October and it is WAY too big! Apparently I lost about 4 inches in my bust, waist, and hips sometime between ordering the gown and picking it up without even trying – which is GREAT for me, but…not so great for alterations. I don’t want to stop loosing weight now that I’ve gotten this jumpstart, but the bride says if I loose too much weight I’ll have to buy a whole new dress all together because it’ll be too hard to alter.
The dress is Alfred Angelo 7069. It’s an 18W and I was just measured as a 16 (about two sizes difference).
What are y’all’s experiences here? Anybody have BIG alterations go really well? really poorly???

was it custommade for you or off the rack? Would the store let you exchange sizes?

It was custom made for me. The consultant said that it wouldn’t be too hard to take in, but that’s if I don’t loose any more weight :/

The alterations can definitely be done and done well, especially by the bridal shop. The variant becomes the price tag associated with the alterations.
I’m already stressing over alterations price tags for a bm dress that will be arriving in November for a January wedding…

How long will alterations take? As long as the seamstress is confident it will be fine, I’d schedule your appointment as close to the wedding as possible.

I have an appointment about two months before the wedding – bride wants me to get the alterations done ASAP. I think I might move it up a few weeks though, it only takes two to alter the dress…who knows, maybe I’m done losing weight?
