First lets start with the most important issue, dress style. Color issues to come later!
My BM sizes are 2, 4, 6, 8 & 24(Lets call her Maggie)
I recently went into House of Brides (aweful place!) where they had 1 of 23 BM dresses that I wanted to look at. Then I come to find out they have one sample of each dress in a random color in a size 10-14. I was mortified! That meant ‘Maggie’ couldnt even try on dresses. I am trying super hard to make sure everyone looks good in and feels good in their dresses so this situation DOES NOT work in my favor.
So out of that appt I have 3 dresses the other girls tried on and I liked. Problem is, I have NO idea what they will look like on ‘Maggie’. I am posting in order of my favorite.
I know that #2 will work for all of them because we tried on similar dresses at Davids Bridal. I am still debating on it bc it is too closely the shape of my own dress which I do not like. So unless I pick another dress, which I may, this would be out. I have no idea how #3 would work. But I am IN LOVE with dress #1! We all love it. But it has gotten the Veto by ‘Maggie’.
I have so far had all the BMs very involved in helping picking out the dresses esp with ‘Maggie’. Even to the point of sending her a list of dresses I like and she eliminates what she knows wont work. Problem is that it has become very hard now for ME to find dresses I like that she ‘ok’s.
I want them all to be happy but Im starting to get frustrated. I also want to love the MB dresses and have them reflect my style and my wedding. It is my wedding and I am the one who will be looking at these pictures my wholelife.
Im struggling to find a balance between making them happy and making me happy. Please HELP!

first of all, i’d just like to applaud you for how you are handling this. i’ve been in weddings before where the bride has not taken into account what works with bigger girls with catastrophic results (and much discomfort). you are a good friend.

This is such a hard situation, I’m sure its stressful for you and unfortunately for Maggie! I think that dress #1 is great, but agree with Maggie, I don’t think it would be flattering on her size, and it sounds like she’s not comfortable with it…. I totally understand why you don’t want your BM’s to have a dress that is a similar shape as yours so no #2, and that leaves #3, I think this dress is cute and would work for Maggie.
But since you like #1 so much and are having a hard time finding a universal fit, have you thought about having the girls wear different styles of dress in the same colors?

To be entirely honest, I’m not as crazy about Dress #1, but that’s my own personal opinion. I love the silhouette of Dress #3 and think it would be so flattering for Maggie!

I think the ruching (sp?) on #3 would be very flattering for Maggie. I can understand why Maggie veto’d #1 – it’s very fitted and would maximize her bigger size.

I have seen #3 as a wedding dress on bigger girls and it looked awesome. Makes the girls look great, the curves are more flattering, and the ruching will make her feel smaller while the a line doesn’t accentuate her hips like #1 does. I think 3 is a great choice!

Just as with any miss size girl, a dress depends on the shape of the person. I am a plus size chic and although I really like dress #3 it would look awful on me. Dress #2 would be the most flattering, if you really don’t want them in a dress close to your own, then keep bridesmaid dress shopping, IMO. The reason dress 3 would look poor on me is cuz I have huge hips and the fact that that dress hits on the hip it would only emphasize the stomach and the hips. However dress #2 hits higher up which conceals the tummy and hip. Plus the sash around the waist draws the eye there which again works magic in hiding any flaws down below.

My bridesmaids are size 0, 4, 8, 8, 12, and 18. There’s no way the same dress would look fabulous on all of them, they’re all so different. So we are going with different dress style.s

I’m a size 8 and I would feel self concious in dress #1 so I can see where Maggie is coming from. Why not try another bridal salon?

Hands down dress 3 for Maggie. No doubt about it…
If you really truely want the girls to be comfy I’d give them a color (and brand) and let them pick style. Each girl WILL find what she loves (like you want them to) becasue honestly you will NOT find 1 single dress that they all look good in AND love (impossible). You’re going to have to sacrifice uniformity or someones opinion…
My vote is dress 3 though.

Note: I do like nubmer 1 the best though! (but it would like god aweful on Maggie.)

I love dress #3; it looks like it would be flattering on many shapes! Can I ask who the designer is?

I had the same issue and this dress (the navy color one) fit perfect on all my bridemaids http://www.allurebridals.com/index.php?id=3&product_id=564

I thought about the one color and they pick their dresses option but that is not going to work for me. That is my #2 problem. I have three colors for my wedding, watermelon pink, light pink and a truffle chocolate color. I wanted to incorperate at least two of these colors into the dresses. That would work for #1 & #2 but not #3.
I was originally going to go with alternating truffle and watermelon dresses but thought they would need a better tie in like having the opposite color sash or something. And though I really like #3, thats why it is listed at #3.
Also, Maggie likes dress style #2. I dont know if she liked or disliked #3 bc she didnt take part in even looking at the dresses after seeing the first two which happened to be #1 & #2.
