a long dress with a light fabric and light colour wouldn't be too hot, i think
You're not crazy for considering long dresses. I think it's fine depending on the fabric. I'm also having an outdoors wedding in July and I'm planning to have the BMs in short dresses. In fact, one of them lobbied for the short dresses. Lol.
I think as long as your conscious of the fabric, a long dress would be perfectly fine. Just get something light and airy, like chiffon or silk!
I agree with the others. As long as you pick a nice breathable fabric for the long dresses I think you can get away with it. I would probably pick a short dress though but that is just me.
I'm having an August wedding, and I'm having long dresses too, because it looks more formal and classic that way. We're only going to be standing outside long enough to take pictures, since the ceremony and reception are both inside.
Long dresses are fine in hot weather, as long as they're made of a light-weight material like organza or taffeta, and as long as they are a lighter color to reflect the sun rather than absorb its heat.
I think having a wedding at a winery is an awesome theme!
I picked short dresses for my girls, and I think some of them secretly wanted long ones and my wedding is at the end of June. I think there are a lot of nice light fabric options for long BM dresses. Just think, the guys will be in suits or tuxes! They'll be sweating more than the gals will be, for sure!
I originally wanted long dresses. I am getting married in September and in California it is our hottest month. So I changed it to short dresses. I am happy I made the decision because my BM dresses are so pretty!
What's the location & time of day is your wedding & reception? If in the late afternoon or evening or mostly indoors, maybe long dresses will be preferable...it tends to get a bit cooler when the sun goes down. If in the morning or midday & they'll be outside with no cooling system, then I'd go with short, since, for the most part, your 'maids will be sitting without cooling system or dancing up a storm.
You and I are date twins and I'm also getting married outdoors at a winery. We're up in Seattle, so it should hopefully be a lot more cool and comfortable than So Cal, but.... I still never considered putting the BMs in long dresses. I went with a light airy chiffon knee-length dress. I was just really concerned about everyone being comfortable, and keeping in mind that the bridesmaid dresses have a significant role in guiding some of the other guests' attire. (For example, I've had my mother, FMIL, and some relatives directly ask what they should wear and wanted to know how long the BMs dresses were to use as a guide). Sorry to be a pain, but my advice is to keep looking for short dresses! Maybe you'll get lucky and find something eventually. Good luck.

my girls are wearing this from DB for our outdoor july wedding. it's cotton, lightweight, and even has pockets. they're all really excited about it, so i think short can be cute too. honestly, i sort of wish i were wearing a short dress myself!! :-)

Have you checked out Aria Dresses? I was having a hard time finding short dresses that I loved, as well, but ended up finding them here. Check it out! May find another possibility! :)
I'm a summer bride too and my bridesmaids are probably going to wear long dresses since that's more formal. Maybe you can go from a Tee length or a long length.
If you want long dresses, go for the long dresses....being at a winery, it might be nice to have a longer, more formal dress. I agree with the others that it should be a chiffon fabric, it's flowy, light and breatheable.
my brother and sil got married in june outdoors in ca, and our bridesmaid dresses were long and chiffon. it looked great, but there was 1 issue--there were a lot of brambles and burrs on the ground that kept getting caught in our dresses. if you won't have the bridesmaids walking down paths that aren't pure grass or concrete or something, it's not an issue, but we walked through an almond tree lane to get to the ceremony site...

So we are getting married in July and I have been looking for BM dresses. Hard work! It's actually harder than finding my own gown.
Here's the logistics: summer wedding, at a winery, in So. Cal with 90-100 degree weather.
I think I have exhausted every short dress possibility with only a few that are potentials. I really like long dresses and am starting to consider long dresses. Am I crazy? Would you get short or long dresses?
