I finally went shopping with my MoH, and we picked out the bridesmaid dress! We got it at Lord and Taylor, and it was an extra 15% off, which is nice.
Here’s the problem: my other two bridesmaids live in completely different parts of the country. They both okayed the pictures of the dress we sent, and pretty much anything will look flattering on them. Now I’m just worried about them getting the dress! It’s not on the L&T website yet (we are pretty sure it’s a brand new style, because we didn’t see it at another L&T last week, and they had every size at the store we went to), and there isn’t a L&T in either of my BM’s towns.
Should I wait for it to come online and then have them order it? Or should I go to the store, buy the dresses in the sizes they think they will be and mail it to them? I’m worried that that will make it way too complicated–if it’s the wrong size, they will have to mail it back to me to exchange, and I don’t know if I will ever get the money from them for the dresses.
For those wondering, this is the dress, but in real life it doesn’t have those bizarre flutter sleeves, it is just strapless, and the floral detail is smaller:
(I found this picture on the designers website, but there is no option to order there, and googling the product number only turns up a website to order it for a 9/30 shipdate, and their description is with the sleeves, so I don’t want to do that)

I would order it for them. Maybe you can ask them to send you the money first. If you wait for it to come online, and it never does, you could be in trouble. Often I find stuff at dept. stores that they don’t sell on their website, I think its pretty common.
As for sizes, how did the MOH’s dress fit? Was it her normal size? If so, I think you are safe in just ordering each BM’s regular size. Unless the dress is much too tight, you can always alter it instead of having them send it back to you to exchange it. It would probably be easier and almost as expensive as all the shipping costs to send the dress back and forth.
Is that the color of the dress in the pic? I love it!

I would buy the dresses and ship them to the other Bms. You’ll know how true to size it is based on your local BMs. These dresses may never be sold online. As for them paying you, I am currently waiting on all four of my BMs to pay me back for their dresses. I figure I’ll make them hand me checks before I let them walk down the aisle 😉

@Krises: That is the color, which is what sold me on the dress! I’ve been looking for a blue that was lighter than navy/royal blue, but not a periwinkle or cornflower. It’s been a struggle, to say the least!
It’s hard to judge the sizing based on my MoH, because she is very petite and skinny but with a large bust (she wears a 2 in pants, but usually a large in tops, which is why I went shopping with her first–she was going to be the hardest to fit). A size 10 fit her perfectly on top, and will just have to be taken in on the waist. But how it fit her doesn’t give us a good idea of how it would fit other people through the waist. I tried on the smallest size they had in stock, but it was 2 sizes up from my normal, so that didn’t really help us either! I feel like I am in a comedy movie about BM dress shopping haha

The dresses are beautiful!
Buying them at a department store allows you a lot more flexibility than you would have with most bridesmaids dresses–where you are measured, compared to the size chart, and then alterations are done if (when) it doesn’t fit just right.
You could always send the girls to the maker’s website for a size chart and let them know how you compared. Then I would definitely go buy the sizes that your other bridesmaids need. Maybe even purchase a couple of extras depending on the store’s return policy.
