Is there any reason you're not looking at David's Bridal? That's the most obvious thing that comes to mind. We were able to find a lot of dresses we liked there.
You might try doing an image search for the style and color of dresses you are looking for. A lot of the pictures are hooked up to websites that sell the dresses, so you can get an idea of cost too.
When I was looking, I could only find gowns that I liked in the 4 to 5 hundred dollar range, so I am going to make them instead. That way I get what I want without the hefty price tag.

have you ever considered buying dresses that arent "bridesmaid" dresses. check norstroms or ann taylor.

I sound like an idiot but I am not sure how to start shopping (seriously) for BM dresses! I have an idea about what kind of BM dress I want and I did browse online for a bit, but I am kind of tired of finding a style a like but only to find out that it doesn't come in the color I have in mind. For example, I went to Jim Hjelm's website and there is no search by color in their dress finder. I am wasting a lot of time looking at dresses I like but not in my color! The only place I know that can sort by color is Dessy, but I'd like (way) more options.
What is the most efficient way to search for a dress based on color/length, or do I really have to sort through all the dresses out there?
This seems to be harder than finding a wedding gown. lol :)
