so decided its time to start taking temps and tracking my cycles closer so i can get a full clear picture.... instead of a fuzzy one.

anyways.... i know you take them right when you wake up.... what else is there to know???

i guess i just need a little bit of guidance. i also plan to start reading tcoyf too so im sure that will help.

You're supposed to take your temp at the same time each morning when you wake up and your body is at rest...so you're supposed to do it before getting out of bed.  I just kept my thermometer in my nightstand, so it was easily accessible and I had the FF app on my cell, so I could record it right away.  It quickly became an easy morning ritual for me.

When I bought my thermometer it also said to take your temperature before speaking (I assume your mouth will cool down if you let air in! hehe) and to put the thermometer under your tongue as far back as you can get it in the "heat pocket".

    hope this helps :)

@stephanie63087: When I first started temping, there were mornings when I forgot.  After doing it for quite a few months, it's become part of my morning routine and I very rarely forget.  You will want to take your temperature at the same time every morning (even on weekends) and you should use a thermometer that is specifically made for taking your basal body temperature.

Happy charting!  It's really amazing to see temperature changes throughout your cycle and knowing that so much stuff is going on in your body behind the scenes.  :)

@stephanie63087: If you are having problems getting a consistent temp orally, you may try taking your temp vaginally. I have been sleeping with my mouth open because I have sinus trouble, so the vaginal temps are much more accurate.

@bunny: That's what I did the month I got my BFP!  It's a little awkward, but it's accurate!

@stephanie63087: Yep! Gently, of course. ;) Honestly, it makes me wish I'd bought a flexible tip thermometer. It freaks me out every single time I do it!

Also, make sure to take your temp in the same place in your mouth every morning. It might vary a bit if you take it on one side further back the first morning, and then closer to the front the next.

VAGINAL thermometer?! I HAVE to get one.

I have been charting for 7 days now... Unsure what to really do with this information because we aren't really TTC yet, just preparing to. I am going to be keeping an eye on this thread also!

good luck with temping ladies! i started a couple months ago.  I'm so glad I did because I was able to take my charts to my doctor and show her what is going on.  I definitely recommend FF.  It makes it easier b/c the site does most of the work.  Once you start temping it becomes second nature.

    Best of Luck!! = )

I set my alarm for an hour before I have to wake up because I found myself waking up before my wake up time (I guess it's my internal clock telling me to wake up?) giving me inaccurate results. Now that I take it an hour before my wake up time, it's always accurate.  Reading TCOYF was great! I learned so much from it. It really answers a lot of questions and helps if you're charting your cervical fluid also. Good luck!!

ETA: it also helps me figure out when I'm going to get AF, its a dip in your BBT, which puts me at so much ease!

@stephanie63087:  it could have affected it, maybe because your heart rate increased?
