Drink lots of water!  Maybe bring a toothbrush, and clean your teeth after lunch?  That always inspires me not to snack as much, because I like the fresh feeling my mouth has after a brushing!

I feel you about the urge to munch if your bored at work! What I do is drink hot green tea, it actually takes away from some of the boredom becuase I get up and walk around to go fill up my mug and kinda take a little stroll through the halls. Plus since its hot you sip on it, which helps the time to pass & it takes a while to finish.

Also, you can try a few desks excersizes (I’ve just started doing some this week!) I have these shelves with doors and once in a while I will sit and lift up the door and do a few reps of those ;) its actually a pretty good excerzie :)

Good Luck!

I really feel you.  I love to crunch at work.  Water, tea, getting up and walking.  Napping too (but don’t let anyone catch you haha)!

Um, I just had some ice cream at work.

My favorite sweet tricks are hard candies, the sugar free kind. Those satiate my sweet tooth. Munchies, hm. I don’t get munchies too much simply because i can’t possibly keep them n my desk for longer than a day. A whole bag of crackers disappears so fast! What about keeping low cal popcorn around? I keep 100 cal bags. Then, it’s only 100 calories.

Well, at least you have to climb the stairs to get to the snacks.  Ok, I know that’s not an excuse but try to go for the healthier snacks. Or better yet, pack your own [healthy] snacks and keep them in individual ziploc bags.

Do you go to the breakroom with your coworkers often? Maybe tell them that you’d rather not since you’re watching what you eat. Most times, people like to socialize and eat so this may be why you find yourself up there.

Also, keeping a food log/diary helps me a lot! If I see what in writing, I keep it in mind before snacking the next time. It really helps.

You can use an online resource like the daily plate at livestrong (http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate ) or even something your health insurance provider has set up on their site. I know Blue Cross Blue Shield has a Blue Access program set up where you can earn rewards just by logging your meals and workouts.

I agree with shortcherriez that it helps to write down what you eat so that you keep track of it.

I have worked in places where there is junky food everywhere and it is difficult!  Chewing gum helps as does drinking lots of water.  Also pack yourself snacks to eat, things like carrot sticks and fruit.  It may also help to set some structure around your day, like bring a treat kind of snack (like a Luna bar) to have in the afternoon at a certain time or something like that.

So, I have read so many things about snacking and eating healthy. My work is the SAME WAY only no stairs. So at least you have to work for yours! LOL Ok, now to the topic, I have read in Women’s HEalth magazines over and over to drink tons of water. I get so sick of water sometimes because I drink so much of it! So, after a 32+ ounzes I add a crystal light pack. =) I think they are about 5 calories and sugar free! They taste WAY better then Kool-aid. Also, to boost your motabolism, eat a handful of almonds anytime you get a little hungry. Things that I tend to snack on:

*String Cheese about 80 calories

*Almonds

*Any mixed nut

*Yogart lowest sugar/lowest fat/lowest calories – oranic is good! =)

*Fruits and Veggies of corse.

My biggest suggestion.. eat every 2 hours!!! And drink water until you have to choke it down! hahah

They say chewing sugar free gum helps with cravings. Plus the average craving only lasts for 15 minutes so maybe popping in a piece for that long will help you?

It’s hard not to be tempted by snacks at work, especially if you’re bored.  My suggestion is to drink a big glass of water every time you’re tempted to snack on something.  I’ve heard people say that when you feel hungry a lot of times, it’s actually your body feeling dehydrated.  If you’re still hungry after the water, then I’d try one of your healthy snacks that you have from home.

It sounds like you’re already planning healthy meals, so that’s a step in the right direction.  Good luck!  I know the gals in my office bring in sweets all the time!  It’s hard to resist, but I always feel better knowing that I made the healthy choice.

I’ve completely stopped walking by the candy jar near the accounting girls.  I just don’t even go over there anymore!  It took awhile to wean myself off of their goodies, but I’ve finally succeeded!  It wasn’t easy, trust.

I’ve found that eating a banana really helps curb my hunger in the afternoon.  Or, whole grain bread, toasted with a little PB.  Good luck fighting the office snacks!

p.s. I actually gave up this very thing for Lent last year (office treats – candy jar, donuts, pretzels, everything!) and it just kinda stuck!
