We booked our venue for Saturday, November 15, 2014!! It is a bit of a splurge, but we loved it so SO much more than the other places we toured! We can cut down in other areas (we haven’t booked anything else yet) so that we are under budget. It makes me nervous that it is pricey and we are locked in now, so what do you think bees?
The ceremony will be at a lake-side gazebo, the cocktail hour will be in a garden area in front of a waterfall, and the reception will be in the ballroom of the victorian mansion (all on one site). Here are some pictures to give you a better idea.
I’m also hoping we can do the horse and carriage ride- we got engaged on a horse and carriage ride in Cancun, so it would be special for us. 🙂

@Baroness_Meg: @lolita39: Thank you ladies! I really LOVE LOVE the venue- but it’s a lot of money and a big decision, especially since I may have to cut down other aspects of the wedding. I think it will be worth it though. Thanks for the encouragement!! <3

That place is gorgeous! As far as I’m concerned, as long as you love it and it’s within your means, there is nothing wrong with a little splurge. You can always make up for it in other places. We, well really it was me, splurged on our videographer that wasn’t even in our initial budget. I cut costs by doing our ceremony decor myself and cutting out the wedding planner we were gonna get. So as long as you can find deals later on, nothing wrong with splurging on something you want. It’s better to get what you want the first time, than get something you only sort of like and regret it long term.

That looks like a fantasy! Really beautiful. Can I ask where it is?
I honestly think the venue, especially if it includes the catering, is the most important aspect of the wedding, up there with the photographer and the dress. Personally, I wouldn’t cut back on venue or photographer. There are of course always beautiful dresses for reasonable prices, though. And the rest of the stuff – flowers, decor, etc – is less important and there’s plenty of room to cut back there. I’m sure you’ll find it in your budget somewhere and make it work, I think it was well worth the spllurge! It looks fantastic and your guests will probably appreciate the atmosphere.

The venue is perfect. If it makes your heart flutter, go for it! But rember that it’s only one day so really cut in those other areas to prevent blowibg up your budget.

@Tarheelgurl: Thanks for sharing how you balanced it out. My gut reaction was to not have a videographer, but I’m rethinking that now! I talked to a couple of my married friends who didn’t have a videographer and they all regret that now. I definitely plan on doing my own ceremony decor and keeping it minimal. I think I’m also going to do my own flowers- I helped a friend do her own flowers and it is SO SO much cheaper than having a florist do it. Mostly because we live close enough to the Los Angeles Flower District and can buy wholesale from them. I know the venue package includes a DOC, but I’m not sure how much they actually do, so I may not need to hire a DOC, although I have one in mind I’d like to hire (my friend’s wife).
@futuremrsk18: This is Grand Tradition Estate in Fallbrook, CA- they have tons of pictures on their website and they do the catering too. During the week they operate a restaurant in the mansion. They have two event spaces next door- Arbor Terrace and Beverly Mansion- both are very different but pretty in their own right. There is also a separate garden between the two venues called Compass Garden. We are having the ceremony and reception at Beverly Mansion and are paying an extra $500 to do the cocktail hour at Compass Garden, it’s a 5 min walk from the ceremony area on the other side of the lake. There is a big lawn area in front of the waterfall where some people have ceremonies, but I am going to have cockatail hour and lawn games there! I am SO excited!! We have the same priorities- I want a great photographer, but will be cutting down in other areas.

@oangeo: @strawbabies: You guys made me laugh 🙂 Thanks so much!
@LemonLavender: @ButterflyBride5: It is really important to me to be financially responsible about the wedding, especially because I have student loans, so I am mentally preparing myself to make cuts in other areas like flowers (doing them myself), not renting linens (white or ivory is included for free) and music. I am hoping the bees with keep me in reality check so I don’t spend money on frivolous things- it’s just a day! Thanks ladies!!
