Do you want honesty or only positive feedback? I can do either. 🙂 I can’t tell from the post whether you’re looking for congratulatory responses or real opinions on the photographer.

i am generally a fan of the whole vintage/photojournalism look, but i dont like how everything in this post is unfocused.

@Barbiestylez:  I love the shots, but why are they all so vintage-washed?  It looks like they all got a standard insta-gram filter to me.

@Barbiestylez:  Ok. From a professional perspective, his images are not sharp/in focus, the editing is all over the place (i.e. the black and whites are not even consistently the same color, some are blueish and others are yellowish), and there are really basic composition and exposure problems in his images. He doesn’t have a blog so it’s very hard for me to tell how many weddings he’s done/how busy he is. His facebook page has only been around since December and his wedding album has a few shots from only maybe 6-7 different weddings in it. There are just some red flags going on for me. Will you have a chance to do an engagement shoot with him before the wedding? What’s most important is that you love your images so if you like this style that’s totally ok, I just worry about how these images look printed with so many of them out of focus and oddly edited.

I like it but i do think there should be some pics that are in focus as you do not want ALL your pictures to look like a guest instagram pics. Its cool for now, but u might regret it later.

It’s dangerous to ask for opinions AFTER your decision has been made!  I’d delete this thread before you start second guessing yourself!

@Barbiestylez:  so you don’t think you’ll ever want to print any of your wedding images? My issue would be that I wouldn’t want to pay professional rates for work that isn’t professional quality. Again, if you like the photos that is what ultimately matters. I’m just giving you a professional opinion and explaining some of the things that make me think this photographer is not quite equipped or experienced enough to be shooting weddings just yet. For example, a dark venue is not an excuse for dramatically underexposed images – if your skill and equipment cannot handle a dark venue you shouldn’t book the wedding. If you do book it, you should rent and get familiar with the lighting gear you need to produce great images in challenging settings.

ETA: I don’t mean for this to be really harsh. I’ve just been on the bee long enough to see people post excitedly about their photographers and then come back really upset about the results a year later. Just keep these things in mind and be sure that everything is on the up and up (he’s insured, has pro gear and pro back up gear, has a plan if he gets ill and can’t shoot the wedding, etc).

I think that although they are supposed to be vintage shots most of them seem very unfocused. But it is not horrible and I think that the pictures will turn out to be beautiful no matter what.
