Boothbay is BEAUTIFUL I'm sure it will be wonderful... You will be experiencing the beginings of lovely fall foliage too. Most of the crowds disperse after labor day, so you should not have too much trouble! It's been about 5 years since I spent any time there, so I'm hesitant to make suggestions. Perhaps a post on NH, Maine and Boston boards will get some bees buzzing about current Boothbay details.
Good Luck!
i wish i could tell you some places around that area ..however if you were to have it in BAR HARBOR , ME ..theres this huge mansion of a house , that is absolutely beautiful ..and if you go outside of it ,ttheres the view of the ocean , and theres cruise ships ..that you can take after the vows and everything... ( my honey and me had a sunset cruise around there ) , its gorgeous , i actually wanted to get married there myself , but we could't do that to his family ..oh well..I would suggest goin to the Barharbor website ..You'll know what i talking about then ..
Meanwhile , if your set with this place , i wish you luck!
Boothbay Harbor is a beautiful town. However, there aren't any lighthouses there. The closest ones are Pemaquid Point and Monhegan Island, both accessible by boat from Boothbay or you could stay closer to Pemaquid which is accessible by land also.. Pemaquid is the prettier of the two. Since you are from Illinois, by the sounds of it, you haven't been to Boothbay. Not to discourage you but many of the lighthouses are privately owned and not open to the public. For this region, Pemaquid would be the best choice. Hotel Pemaquid http://www.hotelpemaquid.com/index.php is 60+/- minutes from Boothbay in New Harbor. It's a very "homey", comfortable setting.
If you are willing to consider somewhere else, Castine is another pretty coastal town. The Manor Inn is a lovely setting. http://www.manor-inn.com/home.htm There is a lighthouse in Castine as well, but is privately owned too. The Castine Inn is another nice spot. http://www.castineinn.com/index.html
Hope some of this helped! Good Luck!

Hello Bees!
I will be getting hitched in Boothbay Harbor, Maine the second week of Sept. 2010.
It will be a very small 10-15 guest wedding. We are going to rent a home for a week near town and take in a Whale tour and a whole lotta lobster.
Here's the thing... we are from Illinois and have never been to the East Coast! I just always wanted to go. So I researched towns and settled on Boothbay Harbor.
So I was hoping there were some relative locals that could regale me with tales of awesome restaurants, places to avoid, sights to take in etc. I couldn't afford a wedding planner, so we are doing it all ourselves. (i.e., I am doing it while my fiance plays video games!)
Some other info I am desperate for would be concerning the date. I am torn between wanting the ceremony on Thursday or Friday, to avoid both the crowds at the lighthouses (haven't picked one for the ceremony yet.. so help here is appreciated to!) and avoid big crowds at the restaurant for the wedding dinner or having it on the traditional Saturday in case my guests can only fly for the weekend?
We are just starting the planning, so while family knows we plan on doing this in Maine in Sept., no set details have been decided on.
I am a little lost here. We found the town, and now I don't know what to do next! Help!
