We are planning on an outdoor venue too - here are a few on my list of places to look at so far:
Bournedale in Plymouth - http://www.capefunctions.com/index.shtml
Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton - http://www.fullercraft.org/home.html
Smith Barn in Peabody - http://www.peabodyhistorical.org/wedding_facilities.asp#smithbarn
I don't know if any of these would be what she's looking for, if I think of any more I'll let you know. :)
Awesone, I'll send them along, if anyone else has any ideas, I know she is looking for a few options since most places may already be booked.
I am not sure if any of these allow liquor, but I found these outdoor venues online:
Castle Hill and Steep Hill Beach The Crane Estate, Ipswich, MA, (978) 356-4351
Cranwell Resort, Spa & Golf Club Lenox, MA, (413) 637-1662/(800) 572-8938
Glen Magna Farms Danvers, MA, (978) 774-9165
Lynch Park Beverly, MA, (978) 921-6067
Naumkeag Stockbridge, MA, (413) 298-3239
Ocean Edge Resort Cape Cod, Brewster, MA, (508) 896-9000/(800) 343-6074
Roof Garden Terrace University Park Hotel @ MIT Cambridge, MA, (617) 577-0200
Granite Links, Quincy MA
Ohhhh....Ocean Edge is beautiful...one of my friends lives right down the street and we drive by it all the time. Granite Links is really gorgeus too but I have heard that it's pricey. I've been to work functions there a few times last summer & the view is amazing! (The food there was really really good!!!)
Yes, I think some of the ones I posted might not be cheap venues, but they are the only outdoor ones I could find so far!! My family stays at one of the Ocean Edge cottages and we always drool over weddings there : )
Try Commander's Mansion in Watertown, MA. It's historic home owned by the city and outdoor ceremony can be held in the grape arbor. I'm pretty sure liquor can be served onsite.
Thanks for the ideas, some are a little high, she is on a super low budget, so if anyone knows of any great budget locales, I'd love to pass them along! :)
I have a friend who is getting married at Searles Castle in Windham NH and she's having her ceremony and reception outdoors and I *think* they're allowing them to do alcohol...I just put in an email to her, but her wedding bee name is FallBride09!
Yup, liquor can be served at the Commander's Mansion, and the grape arbor is beautiful. Keep in mind, though, that if you're having more than 125 people, you have to have the reception in a tent - they have a big beautiful brick patio to put it on, but you have to rent the tent.
Oh, and if she does choose the Commander's Mansion, tell her to find someone she knows (or someone who knows someone she knows, lol) who lives in Watertown to sponsor her (they just supply their address and phone number), and she gets a 20% discount. That's what we did.
What about Willowdale Estates up in Topsfield MA? It's a house but they set up a tent outside. I have no idea on the pricing.

Hi Hive,
I have a friend who is looking for an outdoor site to host her ceremony, reception, and allow alcohol in MA, preferably somewhat close to Boston.
Most outdoor locations dont allow alcohol. I am having no luck helping her. Does anyone know of a place or a good resource to look??
