I have NO idea what your budget is... I went to a function at the Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy, and was surprised by how pretty and unusual it was. It's high up, and you have views of the city on one side, and the ocean on the other:

Maybe it's worth a look?
Hmm I only know fabulous sites within the city (State Room or the Liberty Hotel, anyone?!). I'll keep thinking and see if I can come up with anything outside the city. Things a little towards Concord might be a good bet? I bet there are some fabulous old farms with beautiful fields and wonderful historic architecture - or maybe a big old house? Those seem to be a dime a dozen in this region. You can probably find something fabulous at many price points!
We had our reception at the Prudential Building Skywalk, which I loved, but is definitely an urban type of feel. We looked at the Mass Horticultural Society in Wellesley, which sounds like the romantic outdoorsy type of thing you might be looking for. Check them out--the gardens are gorgeous and you can really get claim to the grounds for your wedding.
I went to a wedding at the Griffin Museum, and it was beautiful. It's on a pond (not an ocean, but still pretty :)) It's in Winchester, so 20ish minutes outside of Boston. http://www.griffinmuseum.org/private_parties.htm
I haven't been to any of these, but I hear they're nice:
You could also check out the Aquarium. http://www.neaq.org/visit_planning/private_events/index.php
And the Museum of Science (on the Charles). http://www.mos.org/visitor_info/host_an_event/weddings_and_celebrations
Codman Carriage House in Lincoln has a great ceremony site. http://www.historicnewengland.org/functions2/Codman/
Wayside Inn in Sudbury has a cute little chapel and grounds to take pictures. http://www.wayside.org/weddings
Gore Place. http://www.goreplace.org/rentals.htm
Without knowing your guest count and budget per guest it is harder to provide a recommendation, but larz anderson park and the auto museum is great for a medium-sized wedding- it has a pond and lots of wide green spaces http://www.larzanderson.org/Topics/Topic.cfm?TopicName=Home&CFID=919946&CFTOKEN=69339931. If you want an amazing view of the ocean, I highly recommend the Crane Estate in Ipswich which has a lawn that stretches to the water http://www.thetrustees.org/crane-estate/
For a location that is near the Boston waterfront, any of the newer hotels in the Seaport District (Seaport Hotel, would work but it does sound like you don't want to be at a hotel.
Thanks everybody for all the advice! I will check out those sites! I guess I should have been a bit more specific on the forum regarding my size and budget, sorry, just a bit new to all of this! We're looking at a wedding size around 100-125 and regarding budget, we don't really have the means for anything too lavish, but we're also not on a super tight budget either.

We are getting married at Regis College in Weston July 2011 The picture is where the ceremony will be. The reception is one of the old mansions on campus. We are going to have the same size wedding and prices are VERY reseasonable for the area!
i'm going with Sheraton Commander in Cambridge ...its beautiful ! But if ur looking for something outside boston Area ..i had another venue i was looking at " The Crestiview" ..its in Woburn . Also very nice :)
you should check out The Willowdale Estate in Topsfield. Its about 25-30 minutes north of Boston but its beautiful!
Good Luck!
we're getting married at the bradley estate this summer. it is beautiful! easy to get to, right off 128 in canton. you can either have it inside, I think 100 is the max, or with more you can have it outside in a tent. you can have your ceremony there as well

good luck!!
I would second the Willowdale Estate and the Lars Anderson Venue: both are beautiful.

Hello fellow brides!!! :D
I'm so excited to get started on this wedding planning adventure! So I've been looking at potential sites around the Boston area and I haven't really found anything I love. My fiance and I really want a gorgeous, romantic/ethereal backdrop with lots of greenery and flowers, perhaps a garden/meadow area or I'm also open to a great view of the ocean. I've been searching high and low and all I've seen are hotels (which are a bit too commercial for my liking). We don't mind an indoor wedding either, as long as we can take some great photos afterwards. Looking forward to hearing your ideas ladies!
