@kim14410: I'll be following this post! I want to know too! My friend booked with a photographer for her wedding and she also did boudoir. She gave a discount on boudoir since she had booked her wedding with her too.
I have two quotes so far. One is a company that has a studio where you go and get them done (Boudoir is their main focus), they charge $375, this includes hair and makeup and one 5x7, and they do not release the photos to you.
My photogher quoted me $350 for a 90 min session, $85 for hair and makeup. They like to shoot inwit modern hotel room with natural lighting and I may or may not have to pay a cleaning fee for that (depends on hotel), this includes all rights to photos.
I will be going with my photographer, I think I will just bThorpe comfortable that way.
I was REALLY lucky! I used one of my favorite photographers in the area and she was very reasonable. She charged $250 for about 90 minutes with a fully edited CD with rights. I wasn't going to pay $500-600 because you have to consider other costs. Makeup, hair, nails, lingerie, jewelry, and heels. Plus, you have to pay for the album as well.
P.S. You definitely want to go with someone you feel comfortable around because it's not the most natural situation to be in.
I was lucky. I got a groupon that was $39.00/Value was quoted at 500-something.
@melisslp: Oh the rights to the pictures is huge! Alot of these places seem to not give you the rights and only a few of the photos included in the price! PAH! I will keep looking!
My photographer is usually$300 for a 60 minute session. But, they do a special once a year when they book a room at a hotel and do back to back session for 1/2 price. So I might do that.
@kim14410 - Yes, you'll definitely want to get rights to the photos. This way, you can make your own album for much cheaper!
For any ladies in the NY/.NJ area i went onto the knot and someone just posted about this website (kinda like groupon and ideeli) called Rue La La and they have a special running for a NYC based Boudoir photographer.. Let me know if any of you guys have looked into this.. I'm in Central NJ and think im gonna buiy it, i just want to go home first and read some reviews on her and her company first.. looks good though from the little i looked at it on my phone!
I paid $150 for unlimited outfit changes and they stayed for probably 2 hours (but really she said they would shoot as long as it took to feel like we had enough good shots). I had rights to all the photos taken and had a disk of them all. It was actually 2 shooters, but they didn't have a studio so they had to be taken at my house (which I actually really liked since I felt more comfortable at my own home). She was by far the cheapest I found and I felt the most comfortable with her, she was the only place in town that didn't have a male shooter or partner/ editor, so that was great for me!
@MrsStormy: Wow that is cheap! I cant seem to find anyone around here thats nice and cheap for me! I am so close to Philli and NYC that most of the photogs from around here go into a different price range!
@kim14410: I'm from around the Philly area, and the package I got is $900 - yikes!! I'll be getting an hour, 4 outfits, full hair and makeup, and an 8x10 book with 25 images in the end (i didn't want to DIY mine). There are cheaper packages but their work is amazing! dollfacestudio.com
i've been stalking living social and groupon for deals, because one popped up for $90 and I stupidly didn't buy it! It said it had like 5 more days but the quantity was limited, so I guess thats where it went :-(
@MrsStormy: Oh the hate! J/k Male shooters are typically less expensive. Female shooters charge more on average because they are more in demand (but may or may not offer a higher quality product). I bring along my makeup artist as a female assistant, who helps with the wardrobe, posing, and positioning, so I can focus 100% on the lighting setup and photography. This also helps the subject feel more relaxed. Also, don't think just becuase your photographer and their editor is female, no one else will ever see your pics.
@kim14410: It was soooo cheap, but I forgot to mention she is a wedding photographer who had just started doing boudoir, and her second shooter was also a wedding photographer who doesn't typically do boudoir but they are best friends so they figured it would be fun, so thats why it was so cheap, I was only her second official strictly boudoir shoot, although she had done it for her brides previously like pre wedding....
@USER876: I totally would have used a male to be honest, but this just worked out perfectly. There is one couple in town who does GORGEOUS boudoir and they were my runner ups. However I have some friends sort of in the industry locally who gave me a bit too much insight into some of the photographers who do boudoir and that just sort of creeped me out knowing some personal things about them.... But I do know what you mean about people seeing your photos, my photographer and I had a contract about who she can show them to (I gave her permission to show them to clients interested in boudoir, like in book form but not via the internet or on a website or anything) although i'm not dumb enough to think that some photographers don't have great ethics and or discretion in what they do with the photos/ who they show. Your setup sounds great though, getting your makeup done for a shoot like this is a must in my opinion, it just helps you get into the right beautiful/ sexy mind set!
I have looked into a few places.
My top pick was someone who does the sessions of out her personal studio which I LOVED! It's a modern looking bedroom with amazing windows. She came with makeup and hair and an album - she cost $500
The person I ended up going with was only because I got a groupon for $69 which is normally $250, but I'm also paying an extra $85 for hair and make up and $199 for an album.
I live near boston. I paid 150 for the shoot and 50 for the album. The photographer was very young and was just starting out. (She now has a studio in Florida for those interested) Even though she was inexperienced she was FANTASTIC. I loved her editing, I got to put on as many outfits as I wanted even though she says on her site that there are 3 outfit changes.
It was supposed to be 1 hour shoot with 35 pics but she took as many pictures as I wanted- we took some in her room, some in the living room. She gave me close to 50 pics on a cd with full printing rights.
I purchased an album through her for $50 and she did a good job for a $50 album (I wanted something that wasn't paperback but that's what you get for that price oh well)
She had some other packages that included hair and makeup but I wanted to save money so I did it myself.
