That happened to me too. I thought I wanted a simple a-line or empire waist dress, but I ended up with a ballgown. It just goes to show it never hurts to move out of your comfort zone!

I just got the email today that it shipped - can you believe David's Bridal wouldn't order it for me in store and match the price on their own website? Supposedly this is because it's being discontinued and I had to order a petite size. What gives? It was $549 in store and $499 on the internet so I went home and did it myself. Losers.
$50 to go towards a fur cape now, I suppose.

I thought I wanted a narrower, A-line dress, short train, some sort of luxurious fabric, nothing strapless - maybe lace cap sleeves, maybe illusion quarter sleeves...
Well, this is why I try on everything:

It was amazing. Aside from my idea of having something with great texture, it's NOTHING like I thought I wanted. I hated the lace cap sleeves on me, the illusion sleeves itched, the dresses with straps and more coverage looked mumsy, the narrow dresses didn't flatter me. This was just IT, immediately. The tulle is so soft, the ruffles are amazing. It nips in my waist and makes me a little less square around the middle. And you can't see it well in the pictures here, but the top third or so of the skirt has beads inside each row of ruffles for extra twinkles! I felt like a snowflake.
I'm getting married here, and I think that's part of why this dress is right. A classical-looking church like this demands a DRESS, not a pretty lace column more suited to a garden wedding. Maybe I just knew those dresses I thought I wanted belonged someplace else. They weren't ugly or anything. This dress just BELONGS on me and belongs in this sanctuary:
And My Love will be bowled over. I cannot wait to see his face!
I hate trying on clothes in shops so was DREADING dress shopping, but bees, I am over the moon right now.
(Oh, and it was $499, down from $1150. Heck yeah, sale!)
