I got my dress a while back but I never got to share pictures so I thought I would do that now becasue I also have questions about the timing for alterations.
(my niece thought I looked beautiful and really had to tell me right when I was taking this picture)
Here’s a close-up of the lace detail.
So the deal is, that my wedding is next May. I live in NYC but I bought my dress in Texas (That’s where my parents live and they paid for the dress…plus it was cheaper there!) I am moving to Amsterdam from January 10- May 1 to study abroad for a semester and then getting married on May 21 in Costa Rica.
So my question about alterations is: Does it make sense for me to get a first round of alterations now before I leave for Amsterdam and then hopefully I won’t have to get it altered again in May but if I do hopefully they’ll just be smaller details. I don’t have plans to lose (or gain) an weight. Is this crazy? I know my whole timeline is kind of crazy but as Tim Gunn would say I have to “make it work”

I’m not sure about the alterations…. but your niece was right! You look absolutely stunning in your dress. 🙂

My best advice would be to look at your weight over the last few years and to trust your body because you are the one that knows it best.
Personally if I needed alterations I would have been confindent in doing them early since my weight has remained the same for as long as I can remember. I’m still able to fit into cloths from years ago. If you have a similar situation I wouldn’t worry too much about getting some done now, just know it’s easier to make the dress smaller than to take out alterations.

Does it need alterations? It looks like it fits perfectly??

I would wait. Going abroad that long can do a lot to your body. Def. watch what you eat… but it could be a “good” or a “bad” change. lol. I personally gained a lot of weight abroad over a semester… but drank a lot and ate a lot of breads, choch, and potatoes. I was however in Austria 🙂 My parents live in London now and I usually loose weight when I go for a month… I’m also close to your “build”

@msstilettoheels: Hehehe yea thats not my dress!it It’s got about 8 huge clips in the back holding it up… which is why the top is a little weird its about 6 sizes too big!
Yea my weight stays pretty consistent…up or down 5 pounds but that’s about it! However, I am worried that I may put on a little weight in Amsterdam between traveling and being away from my yoga studio. On the other hand, I could lose weight from the stress of completing my Masters and planning a wedding from half way across the globe!
Boooo!!! I know this is generally a bad idea, but maybe I should just have it altered as motivation not to gain weight!?

Do you already have a seamstress that will be doing the alterations? because then you can ask them how much time they need to get it done. Some places say they need 4-6weeks and some places need much less time. If it only takes them 4-6 weeks to complete it then you can get the alterations done at the start of the year In January..

@bells: Nope. I don’t have a seamstress… I’m not sure if I should get one in Texas or NYC. I think Texas would be cheaper but by the time I fly down there it’ll probably cost the same… Regardless, I don’t know who would pick up my dress in 4-6 weeks 🙁
