I am new to the Wedding Bee and would like to get some advice before my boyfriend proposes.
So, for the backstory: my BF and I met in grad school during orientation and have been dating for a year now. We have also lived with eachother for 7 months and have a little dog together. We have met eachother’s family and friends and get along perfectly. He’s my rock and my biggest support and, well, I just can’t wait to be engaged to him and (hopefully soon) call him my husband.
Of course, I am sure there are many girls who wait to purchase the dress until after they are officially engaged, but in my situation my BF and I are taking a different approach–some may think that only dating for a year is too short to be engaged let alone purchase the dress, but I on the other hand am entirely sure that we’re making the right decisions together.
Oh, and I almost forgot! My BF and I have already picked out the ring and now “sometime soon” he says we will be engaged! (I think that man-language of “soon” can be a bit different than women’s language “soon” so I’m SO excited and antsy!) My BF also knows about the gown that I have purchased and have in my possession–and don’t faint–but he’s totally okay with it (shocker, huh?) 😉
I am posting a few pictures of the dress I picked out with my mother and best friend:
Please let me know what you think!:)
Also, if you have any advice on how to ease the pre-engagment anticipation that would be great, too!
Thanks fellow Bees! 🙂

I’m not gonna lie, I think it’s super weird to buy the wedding dress before the official engagement, especially when you don’t have a time of year or venue locked down, but if he’s ok with it awesome for you!!!
It IS gorgeous dress! Make sure to update us with ring pics!

I would send the dress to your moms house and not think a thing more about weddings untilhe purposes! Your dress is very pretty and looks perfect for many different wedding types 🙂

Thanks for the comments 🙂
So far my BF and I have talked about the wedding, date, location, etc… but since we are both in grad school and will be finishing this year it’s been really important to figure out where we will land exactly (Most likely LaCrosse or Madison WI for a teaching/writing job and or a/Ph.D.).
So far we both agreed to have a winter wedding in La Crosse WI (his hometown) since his family is bigger and closer than mine. We are for sure going to be engaged “soon” (haha…) and since we’re both planners it will be before Christmas for sure.
It’s also been a big help that since my BF is 4 years older (27) than I am (23) most of his friend have been married/are getting married near the same area which might help us with future planning.
Of course, I should add that I’m not a “bridezilla-to-be” but I am a planner both mentally and financially and for that reason it’s really important for us to save for our special day to treat our guests well.

I love that dress but not with the black sash.

I don’t think it’s weird. But I’m a little weird. FI and I knew where we wanted to get married, when we wanted to, and which photographer we wanted. So booked those things before we were ‘actually’ engaged.
I think your dress is beautiful also!

I think the dress is really pretty but when you put the black sash on it then it sort of looks like a prom dress to me. Have you considered a blingy sash or a sash with a lighter color like a light rose or ivory?

Oooh good idea! I’ve seen a few sashes like that while browsing and what not. Are there any particular websites you would suggest I look at if I’d like to try a sash like that out?

Just an update: We’re going ring shopping 🙂 Hopefully this means something good is about to happen 🙂

Your dress is so pretty..and I agree a different sash would look better.
Also just wanted to add, that I also bought a wedding dress before “officially” engaged. And we got the ring together..choose the venue..all before engaged. Lol. =)
