A few weeks ago my mom and I put down the deposit for my dress. It comes in around October and I’m super nervous because I didn’t get to try it on. For weeks when I was looking at dresses I fell in love with the all lace, romantic dresses of the Allure collection. I found a local shop that carried that line and they had a great plus size selection, but no all lace dresses anywhere near my size! I walked away disappointed and kept serching. I looked at nearly every bridal shop in my town. None of them had all lace dresses in my size. My mother didn’t want to drive to a larger town. I ended up going back to the first shop and buying this dress from another collection, Casablanca. The sample was a size 8, but because it’s fitted through the hips I wasn’t able to try it on. I loved it. I bought it anyways. I hope it’s a gamble that pays off. Is there anyone else who had to be as risky as I was due to size?

I bought my dress from Ebay without trying on. I just saw it on a wim and loved it. It got here… and I really didnt like much about it at all. So now I had to hire a seamstress to pretty much reconstruct the dress. I liked one thing about the dress- The flowers in the front. (Allure 8918) Ill post pictures

I also purchased mine without trying it on. I found my dream dress (Casablanca 1900) in ebay and I couldn’t pass it up! It was the only place I found that had the dress in my budget, and they were a bridal shop, so I made the leap.
it took 6 months to get here and I was so terrified it would be too small. I went off of Casablanca’s measuring chart and couldn’t believe that I needed to order a size 2.
It got here and was just slightly too big! Here’s a pic pre-alteration:

I also ordered a Casablanca dress without trying it on. I needed to build up the top and add sleeves for religious reasons so I found a dress (Casablanca 2004) that had lace built up to the neck and all we’d have to do is attach sleeves and line underneath the sheer lace. (This was preferable because then the dress wouldn’t look strapless and like I sewed on fabric. I’ve seen it before – not a good look!) Well not only was the sample a size 2, but it was not the silhouette I wanted at all. I wanted a ball gown, and since I’m 5’0, we thought a full a-line would be nice. So what we did was, I tried on some comparable dresses for the skirt fullness and then we ordered the Casablanca with a full a-line skirt and lined top and sleeves. When I tried it on for the first time a few months later I hated it. I cried! Some of it was because we needed to do some serious alterations and some of it was because I guess I convinced myself the style would be the most flattering and what I wanted but I really did want some big tulle princess dress (my mom wouldn’t buy that for me because she said it wasn’t flattering). In the end, we tightened and shortened the sleeves (to 3/4 length), used the extra fabric from the sleeves to blend into the top (once all was said and done the top wasn’t laying nicely because of my large bust so we needed to blend some lace into the top to raise the neckline and produce a more flattering result – plus I have religious stipulations for high the neckline is supposed to be and it wasn’t there), and I added an extra full crinoline to make it more poofy (that was one of the reasons I intially cried, they gave me such a flat crinoline to put underneath and meanwhile I’ve been dreaming of a princess dress forever and now my sister’s dress was more poofy than mine!). The one thing they did an AMAZING job on was fixing that neckline. You couldn’t even tell they blended it so unbelievably. It will never be the tulle ballgown but as far as fit, it ended up fine even without me trying it on.
The uploader is still not working for me but I can get it to work on my phone. I’ll upload some pix of the dress so you can see the end result.

I am so nervous about it… I am like 85% sure that this is the dress but feel like I just won’t be 100% sure until I try it on… I have to buy it to try it on… I am going to try to make a decision by 7/31/12 but am so nervous about the what if’s… “what if it doesn’t fit right?, what if it doesn’e look good?, what if I just don’t like it on?” Any other brides who didn’t try it on feel this way?

@michiru4ever: I’m having the same dilemma right now! I really like Maggie Sottero’s Miri but the store only has a size 8 sample and that is too small for me. I have no idea if I should risk it without officially trying it on to see how it hugs my curves 🙁

I also have this thougt from time to time…I bought my dress with a designer that is in another country as it was the only designer that I could find that made the style of dress I was looking for. I will not get to try it on until a couple of days before the wedding when I fly in to try it on and do final alterations!!! so I am placing alot on the fact that I made the right pick!
It’s funny because I have found for me that when I continue to look at other dresses that I see on other brides or as I search for other wedding items I STILL always come back to the thought “WOW I LOVE my dress”. there is nothing else I have liked..but there is a small fear factor at play that just because I love it – it may not love me or my body!!!

I tried on the Mori Lee 1658 in a size 8 and could just get it to my hips but fell in love with the dress. So I took the risk of ordering it in my size 20. I worried for the 6/7 months it took to come in even though my mom keep reassuring me it would be perfect when it got here. Here is a picture of my dress they day it came in. I just need to have the top taken in and the bottom shortened otherwise it fits perfectly. I just love it.

Hi, so as soon as i got engaged i started to look at dresses online. I found an absoluetly beautiful one which i fall in love with. My mum brought me the dress as it was on sale and didnt want to miss out on it! The dress arraived, i tried it on and absolutely hated it 🙁 the style just did not suit me at all. I strongly advise to try on different styles in the wedding shop’s before buying on line to see which style suits you best! Congratulations and good luck 🙂
