Yes, another holiday proposal! BowserGirl is engaged!
I knew it was coming, but that didn’t make a darn difference as to how special it was. We’re LDR, so I knew it was happening in the short time frame that I am visiting, and I assumed either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. I was still speechless and shed a few tears when it happened!
So – story time! After a lovely late Christmas lunch with my FI’s parents, sister, and her partner, my FI led me upstairs to the bedroom we were staying in. By the look on his face, I assumed this had to be the proposal coming. He handed me a leftover Christmas cracker – this is an English Christmas tradition. You pop it open with someone else, and a paper hat, a slip of paper with a joke/trivia, and a small cheap prize come out. See below if you don’t know what it is:
Anyway, so we pop this cracker open, and I’m expecting the ring. I see the hat and paper fall out… and then I see a pair of fingernail clippers fly out and think, “Oh, so that’s the prize… this isn’t the proposal after all!”
But then my dear FI looks around on the ground in a very concerned manner and mumbles, “Uh… your ring was supposed to be in there.” I immediately start laughing and he scrambled around on the floor looking for it. We spotted it by our luggage, he picked it up, propped himself up on a knee, and asked me to marry him.
I didn’t even say anything! I was speechless! So he scuttled over and hugged me and put the ring on (my answer was pretty obvious from all our pre-planning).
And that is the story! I think it’s pretty stinkin’ awesome. I love proposal bloopers, and now I’m happy to join the club!
And here is the ring – I absolutely love it. (size 5 ring – 5mm unenhanced cushion Moissanite bezel set in palladium)
